In bilateral TE/implant-based reconstruction requiring unilateral postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT), progressive radiation-induced fibrosis can lead to increasing nipple asymmetry with cosmetic dissatisfaction. It is also hypothesized that exercise-related alterations in PGC1α expression occur through epigenetic regulation of nucleosome positioning in association with differential DNA methylation status within the PGC1α promoter. In this study, we show that when primary human myotubes from obese patients with type 2 diabetes are exposed to lipolytic stimulus (palmitate, forskolin, inomycin) in vitro, nucleosome occupancy surrounding the -260 nucleotide (nt) region, a known regulatory DNA methylation site, is reduced.

The senior author of this paper has formalized the "superior ledge" modification of the superomedial pedicle technique (SL-SMP) to address these limitations.
Objective: To describe the technical details of the SL-SMP breast reduction technique and to analyze patient outcomes.
Objectives: The prevalence of smoking, at-risk alcohol use, overweight/obesity, inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption, and inadequate physical activity was examined among homeless adults. Desire to change these modifiable health risk factors and the association between desire to change and self-rated health also were examined.
Methods: A sample of 394 homeless adults completed computer-based questionnaires (read over headphones) that assessed sociodemographic characteristics, health risk factors, desire to address health risk factors, and self-rated health.
Vaccine adjuvants have been reported to induce both mucosal and systemic immunity when applied to mucosal surfaces and this dual response appears important for protection against certain pathogens. Despite the potential advantages, however, no mucosal adjuvants are currently approved for human use. Evaluating compounds as mucosal adjuvants is a slow and costly process due to the need for lengthy animal immunogenicity studies.

This study examined whether pulsed electromagnetic field therapy could produce similar results in patients undergoing unilateral transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap breast reconstruction, a significantly more complex and painful surgical procedure.
Methods: In this double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, 32 patients undergoing unilateral TRAM flap breast reconstruction received active or sham pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.
Background: Partial hypopharyngeal defects are most commonly reconstructed with the pectoralis major myocutaneous flap (PMMF) or free fasciocutaneous (FFC) flap.
