Preexposure Prophylaxis and Intimate Partner Violence Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men: A Global Scoping Review of the Literature.

Men who have sex with men (MSM) experience intimate partner violence (IPV) and are at an elevated risk of HIV acquisition. Preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective preventative measure against HIV. However, its adoption and consistent use among MSM, especially those experiencing IPV, is low.

The overwhelming majority of states require pharmacists to pass the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE) prior to licensure, and student performance in the pharmacy law course is the biggest predictor of success on the MPJE. However, wide variation exists regarding the structure and delivery of the pharmacy law course. Evidence-based learning strategies are well described in the literature, including: (1) practice testing, (2) distributed practice, (3) interleaved practice, (4) self-explanation, and (5) interrogative elaboration, and an opportunity may exist to implement them into the pharmacy law course.

Individual Beliefs and Experiences With Brain Health Dietary Supplements in the United States.

Background: Although the use of brain health dietary supplements (brain DS) has increased, there is limited research on safety and risk of these products. Brain DS may be beneficial for improving memory, concentration, and focus but may also carry risks.

Objectives: To assess brain DS users' utilization experiences and identify factors associated with likelihood of brain DS use among nonusers.

The Association Between Sexual Initiation and Membership in Dyadic Profiles of Perceived Shared Power.

There is scarce empirical evidence examining whether sexual initiation and power are associated with each other. Utilizing latent profile analyses, we examined in a nationally representative sample of US newlywed heterosexual couples (N = 1,948 couples) whether wives' and husbands' sexual initiation patterns and satisfaction with these patterns were associated with membership in different profiles of wives' and husbands' perceptions of shared relational power while accounting for both partner's satisfaction with sexual frequency. We found four profiles of wives' and husbands' perceptions of power.

The relationship between medical marijuana use and prescription pain reliever use among U.S. adults: A retrospective analysis utilizing the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH).

Background: Despite a number of states in the U.S. enacting medical marijuana policies, there is currently a lack of research outlining the role that individual-level factors play in predicting medical marijuana use, especially regarding use and misuse of prescription pain relievers.

Pharmacists' perceptions of pharmacy technician occupational values.

Background: Pharmacy technician scope of practice has expanded in recent years to attempt to alleviate the responsibility burden placed on pharmacists in some states. However, little research has examined the ways in which pharmacists attempt to persuade technicians to take on additional roles. Management literature has identified the importance of understanding employee values in crafting persuasive role expansion messaging.

The Development of a New Tool to Help Patients and Their Providers Evaluate Self-Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Diabetes self-management or self-care activity related to diet, physical activity, and glucose monitoring, among other things, is recognized as important to effectively managing this condition. The aim of this study was to create an assessment tool for evaluating knowledge and self-management behavior in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) for patients and their providers. The study utilized an online survey with a cross-sectional design of adults diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

The Power of Mindfulness: Examining Power Imbalances, Mindfulness, and Couples' Relational and Sexual Well-Being.

Perceptions of power imbalance are common in relationships. We used the relational model of mindfulness to examine links between marital perceptions of power, relational and sexual well-being and to evaluate whether trait mindfulness and sexual mindfulness moderate these associations. Using a nationally representative sample ( = 1,519 couples at Wave III) of mixed-sex newlywed couples, an actor-partner-interdependence model indicated that trait mindfulness and state sexually mindful awareness buffered the link between men's and women's own perceived power imbalance and relational well-being.

Importance: Naloxone is a life-saving medication for individuals experiencing an opioid overdose. Naloxone standing orders aim to make naloxone more available by allowing patients improved access to this medication at community pharmacies; however, lawful availability does not mean that this life-saving intervention is accessible to patients.

Previous research found associations between body image and sexual well-being at an individual level, but very little research has examined a dyadic association between body image and sexual and relational well-being. Using a nationally representative sample of 2,177 newlywed couples, this study used an Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) to estimate actor and partner associations between body esteem and relationship satisfaction, using sexual styles - inhibited, obsessed, or harmonious - as potential mediators.

Latent profiles of sleep quality, financial management behaviors, and sexual satisfaction in emerging adult newlywed couples and longitudinal connections with marital satisfaction.

Emerging adult newlywed couples often experience many demands on their time, and three common problems may surface as couples try to balance these demands-problems related to finances, sleep, and sex. We used two waves of dyadic data from 1,001 emerging adult newlywed couples to identify four dyadic latent profiles from husbands' and wives' financial management behaviors, sexual satisfaction, and sleep quality: , , , and . We then examined how husbands' and wives' marital satisfaction, in relation to profile membership, varied at a later wave.

A Qualitative Approach to Investigating Developmental Opportunities Among Leaders and Followers.

To understand and identify developmental opportunities by exploring students' evolving views of leadership, including the emergence of leadership and self-identification, among students considered to be leaders and those considered to be followers. The Impact of Two Longitudinal Professionalism Courses on Student Pharmacists' Empathy.

To determine whether empathy increased in first-year student pharmacists after completing longitudinal professionalism courses at two schools of pharmacy, identify potential moderators, and assess whether students' conceptualization of empathy changed with time. Surveys to assess empathy and other variables were administered to student pharmacists at baseline and at the end of two professionalism courses. Baseline and follow-up scores were compared to detect changes over time.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Self-Reported Management of Chronic Conditions.

Chronic conditions (CCs) management during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the pandemic on patient activation (PA) and health locus of control (HLOC) remain unknown. This cross-sectional online survey study examined the role of COVID-19 pandemic-related worry or fear in PA and HLOC among patients with CCs. Individuals with CCs (n = 300) were recruited through MTurk Amazon.

Predictors of pharmacists' likelihood to query prescription drug monitoring program databases.

Background: Low rates of enrollment and querying of the prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs) may be detrimental to the effectiveness of controlling prescription drug misuse. A number of individual-level, organizational, and regulatory factors may affect a community pharmacist's likelihood to query their statewide PDMP.

Objective: To identify predictors of pharmacists' likelihood to query the PDMP.

Background: Pharmacists have struggled to find time to spend on clinical tasks. As such, regulatory steps have been taken by some states to expand the scope of practice for community pharmacy technicians.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine what settings and characteristics predict pharmacists' comfort levels with technicians giving or receiving verbal prescriptions, performing nonclinical medication therapy management tasks, administering vaccinations, and verifying prescriptions.

The Family Health Scale: Reliability and Validity of a Short- and Long-Form.

Families strongly influence the health of communities and individuals across the life course, but no validated measure of family health exists. The absence of such a measure has limited the examination of family health trends and the intersection of family health with individual and community health. The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Family Health Scale (FHS), creating a multi-factor long-form and a uniform short-form.

Reporting interpersonal violence and abuse: What pharmacists need to know.

Objective: To examine and describe the reporting requirements for pharmacists related to interpersonal violence and abuse in the United States.

Methods: A comprehensive search of state laws related to mandatory reporting of intimate partner violence and domestic violence (IPV), child abuse, and elder abuse was conducted. Identified statutes were reviewed to determine if pharmacists were mandatory reporters for each type of violence.
