Long-Term Outcomes of Cardiovascular Operations in Children With Connective Tissue Disorders.

Connective tissue disorders can be associated with significant cardiovascular morbidity needing cardiac surgery during childhood. In this retrospective study, we used the Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium, a multicenter United States-based registry of pediatric cardiac interventions, to describe the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent their first surgery for connective tissue-related cardiovascular conditions aged <21 years. Between 1982 and 2003, a total of 103 patients were enrolled who underwent cardiac surgery for a connective tissue-related cardiovascular disorder, including 3 severe infantile cases operated on within the first year of life.

Relationship of race and ethnicity on access, timing, and disparities in pediatric palliative care for children with cancer.

Purpose: Pediatric palliative care (PPC) improves quality of life for children and adolescents with cancer. Little is known about disparities between different racial and ethnic groups in the frequency and timing of PPC referrals. We evaluated the impact of race and ethnicity on the frequency and timing of PPC referral after initiation of an embedded PPO clinic where no formal consultation triggers exist.

Purpose: Most pediatric palliative care (PPC) education is trainee-directed, didactic, or simulation-based and therefore limited in scope, realism, and audience. We explored whether an embedded pediatric palliative oncology (PPO) clinic is associated with improved pediatric oncology provider palliative care comfort, knowledge, and attitudes toward PPC and if the model is feasible for both clinical care and education of providers of all levels.

Methods: Oncology providers (oncologists, advanced practice providers, and fellows) were enrolled in this study.

We explored whether an embedded pediatric palliative oncology (PPO) clinic is associated with receipt and timing of PPC and hospital days in the last 90 days of life.

Methods: Oncology patients (ages 0-25) with a high-risk event (death, relapse/progression, and/or phase I/II clinical trial enrollment) between 07/01/2015 and 06/30/2018 were included.

An antisense oligonucleotide targeted at MAO-B attenuates rat striatal serotonergic neurotoxicity induced by MDMA.

The present study was designed to elucidate the role of dopamine (DA) metabolism in the serotonergic neurotoxicity induced by 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). An antisense (AS) oligonucleotide (ODN) sequence targeted at monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) was utilized to attenuate MAO-B activity prior to MDMA administration. Sprague-Dawley rats were surgically implanted with intracerebroventricular (icv) cannulae and received a continuous infusion of MAO-B AS-ODN via an osmotic minipump.
