Although the concept of Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) has been around for more than two decades, teaching methods and standards of curricula for nursing education related to SDOH are relatively new concepts. Here, we explore pedagogical frameworks, national standards, and recent progress in the study and implementation of SDOH curricula and the top teaching strategies implemented in various nursing and healthcare disciplines and across educational levels (undergraduate and graduate programs). Selected examples are used to illustrate lessons learned across disciplines in effective teaching strategies related to SDOH.

We explore the extent to which state scope of practice laws are related to nurse practitioners (NPs)' day-to-day practice autonomy. We found that NPs experienced greater day-to-day practice autonomy when they had prescriptive independence. Surprisingly, there were only small and largely insignificant differences in day-to-day practice autonomy between NPs in fully restricted states and those in states with independent practice but restricted prescription authority.

Background: There is limited evidence on whether prior RN clinical experience is predictive of academic success in graduate nurse practitioner (NP) programs. The purpose of this study was to explore whether the frequently held assumption that more prior clinical experience is associated with better academic success in The George Washington University online NP programs.

Method: Applications (n = 106) for clinical NP students entering from 2008-2010 were examined along with data on academic performance.
