Objectives: Readmission to acute care from the inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) setting is potentially preventable and an important target of quality improvement and cost savings. The objective of this study was to develop a risk calculator to predict 30-day all-cause readmissions from the IRF setting.
Design: Retrospective database analysis using the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDS) from 2015 through 2019.
Rehabilitation of elderly persons is accompanied by unique challenges, as the physiologic changes with aging may be compounded by a multitude of psychologic, social, and genetic factors. In this chapter we present an overview of the impairments that develop with aging. We discuss factors to consider when evaluating a patient with functional complaints and opportunities for treatment.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To determine feasibility of using the interactive Mobile Health and Rehabilitation (iMHere) system in spina bifida and its effects on psychosocial and medical outcomes.
Design: In a randomized controlled trial, 13 intervention participants using the iMHere system and receiving usual care and 10 control participants receiving usual care were followed for 1 year.
Results: Feasibility of use of the system was demonstrated by participants using a customized smartphone system for reminders to conduct various self-care tasks, upload photos of wounds, manage medications, complete mood surveys, and for secure messaging.
