Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is a common environmental pollutant that negatively affects male reproductive health, and this study investigates its multigenerational impact.
Male rats exposed to BaP during puberty showed reduced offspring body weight, altered puberty onset, and males had decreased sperm production and abnormal sperm morphology.
The study indicates that BaP exposure leads to lasting reproductive issues in the next generation, including changes in fertility and reproductive organ development.

Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is a persistent organic pollutant and endocrine disruptor that can compromise the steroidogenesis process by interacting with the StAR protein, causing adverse effects on male reproduction. However, consequences of prepubertal BaP exposure and its impacts on adult life are yet unknown. This study investigated the effects of BaP exposure from the juvenile period to peripubertal on reproductive parameters in adult male rats.
