Successful Therapeutic Hypothermia in a Patient with Drug-Induced J Waves and Cardiac Arrest: A Case Report.

A 50-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with hypotension and bradycardia after receiving high doses of atenolol, amlodipine, and etizolam. He had a drug-induced J wave on electrocardiography and subsequently underwent cardiac arrest. The patient was successfully rescued by venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) and a good neurological outcome was achieved with therapeutic hypothermia (TH).

Atg1, a key regulator of autophagy, functions to promote MAPK activation and cell death upon calcium overload in fission yeast.

Autophagy promotes or inhibits cell death depending on the environment and cell type. Our previous findings suggested that Atg1 is genetically involved in the regulation of Pmk1 MAPK in fission yeast. Here, we showed that Δ displays lower levels of Pmk1 MAPK phosphorylation than did the wild-type (WT) cells upon treatment with a 1,3-β-D-glucan synthase inhibitor micafungin or CaCl, both of which activate Pmk1.

Autophagy-related genes genetically interact with Pmk1 MAPK signaling in fission yeast.

Apart from the highly conserved role in the cellular degradation process, autophagy also appears to play a key role in cellular proliferation. Here, we describe the genetic interaction of autophagy-related genes and Pmk1 MAPK signaling in fission yeast. deletion cells (Δ ) exhibit the (viable in the presence of immunosuppressant and Cl ) phenotype, indicative of Pmk1 signaling inhibition.
