Article Synopsis
  • Fibrinogen and homocysteine levels are often higher in people with metabolic syndrome, which may link them to sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL).
  • Elevated fibrinogen can worsen outcomes in SSHL by increasing blood viscosity and reducing blood flow, while the role of homocysteine in SSHL is still debated.
  • Metabolic syndrome is both a potential cause and a factor that hinders recovery in SSHL cases, but more research is needed to explore their impacts and to develop targeted treatments.
