Sensitization to ethylenediamine dihydrochloride in patients with contact dermatitis in northeastern Italy from 1996 to 2021.

Background: Ethylenediamine dihydrochloride is a versatile aliphatic amine found in numerous medications and industrial compounds and is a known sensitiser. The sensitization prevalence is affected by geographical and socio-cultural factors.

Objectives: The objectives are to analyse the temporal trend of sensitization to ethylenediamine dihydrochloride in northeastern Italy and to investigate associations with occupations.

A group of three miRNAs can act as candidate circulating biomarkers in liquid biopsies from melanoma patients.

Background: Staging of melanoma and follow up after melanoma diagnosis aims at predicting risk and detecting progression or recurrence at early stage, respectively in order to timely start and/or change treatment. Tumor thickness according to Breslow, status of the sentinel node and value of the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) are well-established prognostic markers for metastatic risk, but reliable biomarkers identifying early recurrence or candidates who may benefit best from medical treatment are still warranted. Liquid biopsy has emerged to be a suitable method for identifying biomarkers for early cancer diagnosis, prognosis, therapeutic response prediction, and patient follow-up.

Background: Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is one of the most aggressive types of skin cancer. Currently, innovative approaches such as target therapies and immunotherapies have been introduced in clinical practice. Data of clinical trials and real life studies that evaluate the outcomes of these therapeutic associations are necessary to establish their clinical utility.

In situ malignant melanoma on nevus spilus in an elderly patient.

Nevus spilus is the term usually given to a pigmented skin lesion, congenital or acquired, that may occur anywhere on the body, consisting of a large light tan patch with numerous superimposed darker scattered maculae or papulae that are flat or slightly raised. For a long time, nevus spilus was believed to be a benign lesion. However, in 1957 Perkinson reported a melanoma appearing on nevus spilus for the first time.

Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp induced by imiquimod.

Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp (EPDS) is a rare condition characterized by sterile pustules, erosions, and crusted lesions on the scalp of elderly patients. This inflammatory disorder has an unknown origin and it could develop into areas of alopecia that tend to be atrophic. An 84-year-old Caucasian man presented with a several months history of painful erythematous erosions and crusts on his scalp.

Topical tacrolimus in the treatment of lichen planus in a child.

Lichen planus is a relatively common mucocutaneous disease in adult patients, but it is more rare in children. Topical corticosteroids are the first line of treatment in most pediatric patients with a localized classic form of lichen planus. We report the case of a child with cutaneous lichen planus who did not respond to topical steroids but showed complete resolution once switched to 0.
