Background: Previous research has suggested that alternative (respiratory) care providers (ACP) may provide affordable, accessible care for sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) that decreases wait-times and improves clinical outcomes. The objective of this study was to compare ACP-led and sleep physician-led care for SDB on patient reported outcome and experiences, with a focus on general and health-related quality of life, sleepiness, and patient satisfaction.

Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of a randomized trial in which participants with severe SDB were assigned to either ACP-led or physician-led management.

Background: In Canada, COPD represents a significant burden to the patient and health system, as it is often under or misdiagnosed and sub-optimally treated. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a common co-morbidity in COPD and there is significant interplay between these two chronic conditions. Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer are both detrimental diseases that present great burdens on society. Years of life lost (YLL), premature years of life lost (PYLL), working years lost (WYL), and productivity loss are all effective measures in identifying economic burden of disease.

Objective: We propose a population-based study to analyze comprehensive provincial cohorts of Saskatchewan residents with COPD, lung cancer, and combined COPD and lung cancer in order to identify the burden these diseases present.

Background: Malignant pleural effusion is associated with short life expectancy and significant morbidity. A randomized controlled trial comparing indwelling pleural catheters (IPCs) with talc pleurodesis found that IPCs reduced in-hospital time and the need for additional procedures but were associated with excess adverse events.

Background: Increases in dietary sodium increase blood pressure, whereas emerging evidence confirms that the reduction in dietary sodium results in reduced cardiovascular events.

Objectives: To estimate the effect that reducing dietary sodium can have on cardiovascular events in Canada.

Methods: Based on published meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials, blood pressure reductions associated with different levels of reduction in dietary sodium were used in the model.
