Who is the Teacher and Who is the Student? The Dual Service- and Engaged-Learning Pedagogical Model of Anatomy Academy.

Anatomy Academy is a simultaneous service-learning experience for preprofessional school undergraduate students and preclinical professional students acting as classroom paraprofessional teachers (Mentors), and engaged-learning experience for fourth to sixth grade elementary school children (Students). Using didactic and kinesthetic active learning teaching strategies in small-group classroom environments, Mentors taught anatomy, physiology, and nutrition concepts to Students. In this study of the program's early years (2012-2014), overall objectives of improving Mentors' pedagogical confidence; and Students' science interest, science knowledge, and exercise self-efficacy were assessed.

Cannulated Intramedullary Screw Fixation of Distal Fibular Fractures.

Open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) methods, primarily plates and screws, remain the standard of treatment for distal fibular fractures. This study evaluates the use of a cannulated intramedullary screw as a minimally invasive treatment method for distal fibular fractures, which has not been reported in the current literature. This retrospective study included 45 patients with distal fibular fractures treated with cannulated intramedullary screw fixation.

Minimal Invasive Fixation Can Decrease Infection Rates in Diabetic and Obese Patients With Severe Ankle Fracture and Syndesmotic Injury.

Background: Ankle fractures involving syndesmosis disruption cause severely unstable joint conditions. Traditional invasive operations put certain patient groups at an increased risk of infection. There is limited literature discussing the outcomes of minimally invasive fixation of severe ankle fractures including syndesmotic injury, as clinicians may be tempted to treat these difficult cases with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF).

Superficial CD34-positive fibroblastic tumor: Cytologic features, tissue correlation, ancillary studies, and differential diagnosis of a recently described soft tissue neoplasm.

Superficial CD34-positive fibroblastic tumor is a low-grade mesenchymal neoplasm of superficial soft tissues characterized by fascicles of spindle to epithelioid cells displaying nuclear pleomorphism and strong diffuse CD34 immunoreactivity. The intraoperative imprint cytology preparations (ICP) of a superficial CD34-positive fibroblastic tumor from a 50-year-old female are described. To the best of our knowledge, there is no report of the cytologic findings of superficial CD34-positive fibroblastic tumor in the English medical literature.

A Systematic Review of the Role of Surgical Approaches on the Outcomes of the Tibia Pilon Fracture.

Background: The role of each surgical approach on the outcomes of pilon fractures has not been investigated in a systematic review.

Methods: This systematic review was conducted with a thorough literature search on PubMed using the keywords ("pilon" OR "plafond") "fracture." Only articles written in the English language that have been published within the past 15 years and discussed the surgical approach were considered.
