Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-BB promotes cell proliferation in normal and cancer cells. At the same time, the active form of vitamin D (1,25(OH)-vitamin D) inhibits proliferation in some cells.

This study investigates the role of Rho GTPases, specifically Cdc42, Rac1, and RhoA, in platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRα and PDGFRβ) signaling. Signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) proteins, essential for cellular processes such as proliferation and immune response, are activated downstream of PDGFRs. In this study, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor β (PDGFR-β) internalizations were investigated by immunofluorescent microscopy following simultaneous treatment with EGF and PDGF-BB. We found that the two receptors utilize separate routes of internalization, which merges in a common perinuclear endosomal compartment after 45 min of stimulation.

We study steady axisymmetric water waves with general vorticity and swirl, subject to the influence of surface tension. This can be formulated as an elliptic free boundary problem in terms of Stokes' stream function. A change of variables allows us to overcome the generic coordinate-induced singularities and to cast the problem in the form "identity plus compact," which is amenable to Rabinowitz's global bifurcation theorem, whereas no restrictions regarding the absence of stagnation points in the flow have to be made.
