This study examined ethnic differences in self-report and interviewer-rated depressive symptoms and estimated the contributions of sociodemographic and psychosocial factors in predicting severity of depression. One hundred twenty-five clinically depressed African American (n = 46), Caucasian (n = 36), and Latina (n = 43) women were recruited. After controlling for differences in socioeconomic status, African American women reported more symptoms of distress and Latinas were rated as significantly more depressed than the other groups.

While enhancing short-lived humoral immunity, the administration of a CD40 agonist during thymus-dependent immune responses ablates germinal center formation, prematurely terminates the humoral immune response, blocks the generation of B cell memory, and prevents the generation of long-lived bone marrow plasma cells. Objective: Early primary repair of tetralogy of Fallot has been routinely performed at Children's Hospital, Boston, since 1972. We evaluated the long-term outcome of this treatment strategy including the influence of a transannular patch.
Methods: Fifty-seven patients less than 24 months of age (median 8 months) underwent primary repair of tetralogy of Fallot between January 1972 and December 1977.
Recent studies have indicated that numerical chromosomal abnormalities including changes in p53 and cyclin D1 may be involved in Hurthle cell tumorigenesis. We analyzed a series of Hurthle cell neoplasms of the thyroid to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic utility of numerical anomalies by DNA fluorescent probes for cyclin D1 and p53 gene loci and chromosomes 5, 7, 11, 12, 17, and 22. Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis was performed on paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 10 Hurthle cell adenomas, 19 Hurthle cell carcinomas, and 7 normal thyroid tissues used as controls.

In preparation for clinical trials at this institution, this study was undertaken to compare the efficacy of a conventional single-bolus dose versus double-bolus dose treatments with O(6)-benzylguanine (BG) in depleting MGMT activity in vivo. In xenograft human glioma SF767 tumors, a single 30-mg/kg bolus dose of BG completely inhibited MGMT activity for at least 8 h, but approximately 50% of the basal MGMT activity recovered within 24 h.
