Water uptake by organic coating systems used for corrosion prevention on airframes is one of the principal contributors to the loss of barrier properties of the coating. We used equivalent circuit analyses of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data to track changes in coating layer capacitance for a two-layer coating system consisting of an epoxy primer and polyurethane topcoat immersed in NaCl solutions with different concentrations and temperatures. The capacitance curve exhibited two different response regions, consistent with the "two-stage kinetics" mechanisms for water uptake by the polymers.

Cross-linked polymeric networks that possess tunable properties and degrade on-demand have broad applications in today's society. Herein, we report on silyl-containing poly(urethane) (silyl-PU) thermoset networks, which are highly cross-linked stimuli-responsive materials with hydrolytic stability at 37.7 °C and 95% relative humidity, thermal stability of 280-311.

In this study, a series of silyl-containing ethoxycarbonates and ethoxycarbamates on electron poor anilines and phenols were synthesized and their kinetics of disassembly determined in real-time upon exposure to fluoride ion sources at room temperature. The results provide a greater understanding of stability and kinetics for silyl-containing protecting groups that eliminate volatile molecules upon removal, which will allow for simplification of orthogonal protection in complex organic molecules.

New pyrrolidino derivatives of both diamagnetic and paramagnetic trimetallic nitride templated endohedral metallofullerenes were synthesized by the Prato reaction, isolated and characterized by means of MALDI-TOF MS, NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies.

The reaction of Sc3N@C80 with 6,7-dimethoxyisochroman-3-one (13C labeled) provides the first functionalized derivative of the trimetallic nitride template (TNT) endohedral metallofullerene family. The reaction mixture is dominated by a single 13C labeled monoadduct product that was purified by HPLC. The 13C labeled monoadduct was characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.
