Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program Participation in the National Resident Matching Program Match: Trends and Implications for Recruitment.

Objective: Recruitment is one of the most important missions for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) Caucus of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the American Association of Directors of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. A review of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match data is needed to inform current and future practices.

Methods: The NRMP, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and Association of American Medical College databases were queried from 1996 to 2021.

Flipping a Single Lecture in a Survey Course to Active Learning: Do the Benefits Justify the Costs?

Health education has seen a surge of interest in active learning strategies like the flipped classroom. In response to the need for physical distancing in the age of COVID-19, schools are rapidly shifting to web-based and video technology, sometimes without being able to predict the outcomes of this change. The objectives of this pilot experiment were to (1) compare active learning (AL) methods versus traditional lecture for transmitting and retaining knowledge in the introductory pre-clinical medical school curriculum and (2) weigh whether the costs required to flip instruction were justified by learning gains.

A Survey of Residents/Fellows, Program Directors, and Faculty About Telepsychiatry: Clinical Experience, Interest, and Views/Concerns.

The effectiveness of telepsychiatry video for clinical care is well established, and clinician and psychiatry resident interest in it is growing-particularly in light of the COVID-19 impact. Still, few residency programs in the United States have core curricula, rotations/electives available, and competencies, and many faculty have no experience. A survey was sent via national organization listserves for residents, fellows, faculty, and program directors to complete.

A Survey Comparing Adult and Child Psychiatry Trainees, Faculty, and Program Directors' Perspectives About Telepsychiatry: Implications for Clinical Care and Training.

Risk factors associated with failing pre-transmission assessment surveys (pre-TAS) in lymphatic filariasis elimination programs: Results of a multi-country analysis.

Achieving elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF) as a public health problem requires a minimum of five effective rounds of mass drug administration (MDA) and demonstrating low prevalence in subsequent assessments. The first assessments recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) are sentinel and spot-check sites-referred to as pre-transmission assessment surveys (pre-TAS)-in each implementation unit after MDA. If pre-TAS shows that prevalence in each site has been lowered to less than 1% microfilaremia or less than 2% antigenemia, the implementation unit conducts a TAS to determine whether MDA can be stopped.

Gender and neglected tropical disease front-line workers: Data from 16 countries.

Background: Delivery of preventive chemotherapy (PC) through mass drug administration (MDA) is used to control or eliminate five of the most common neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The success of an MDA campaign relies on the ability of drug distributors and their supervisors-the NTD front-line workers-to reach populations at risk of NTDs. In the past, our understanding of the demographics of these workers has been limited, but with increased access to sex-disaggregated data, we begin to explore the implications of gender and sex for the success of NTD front-line workers.

Low-Resource Project-Based Interprofessional Development with Psychiatry Faculty.

Projects done in interprofessional groups can foster faculty development with minimal resources beyond what is already available at the university or medical center. Each project can yield multiple "wins" in individual faculty growth while meeting the needs of academic medical centers. These projects can build collaborative skills and a sense of community among faculty, trainees, and staff.

Need for and Steps Toward a Clinical Guideline for the Telemental Healthcare of Children and Adolescents.

Objective: This article identifies and describes key considerations toward the development of a clinical guideline intended to optimize telemental healthcare (TMH) of children and adolescents.

Methods: The literature was searched with key terms and title words. Of 2824 articles that met primary or secondary key word search criteria, 326 met both criteria, and 118 thematically related directly to child and adolescent TMH.

The Next Big Thing in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: Interventions to Prevent and Intervene Early in Psychiatric Illnesses.

The last two decades have marked tremendous progress in our ability to prevent and intervene early in psychiatric illnesses. The interventions described in this article range from established, empirically-supported treatments to creative interventions early in their development and deployment. Some of these interventions are low-technology programs delivered in social settings (such as schools), and some rely on sophisticated emerging technologies such as neuroimaging.

Reflective team supervision after a frightening event on a psychiatric crisis service.

Objective: The authors demonstrate the value of reflective team supervision as part of the informal curriculum in an emergency psychiatry setting after a potentially traumatizing adverse event.

Method: The article gives a case presentation of a violent adolescent who eloped from his hospital Emergency Department and provides a description of team supervision sessions that facilitated informal learning for residents and medical students after this event.

Results: Reflective team supervision sessions after this event resulted both in improved resident well-being and learning opportunities, as well as hospital quality improvement designed to prevent future elopements.

Salivary glucose oxidase from caterpillars mediates the induction of rapid and delayed-induced defenses in the tomato plant.

Caterpillars produce oral secretions that may serve as cues to elicit plant defenses, but in other cases these secretions have been shown to suppress plant defenses. Ongoing work in our laboratory has focused on the salivary secretions of the tomato fruitworm, Helicoverpa zea. In previous studies we have shown that saliva and its principal component glucose oxidase acts as an effector by suppressing defenses in tobacco.
