Background: Those with serious mental illness (SMI) experience poor health outcomes which may be addressed by the integration of mental health and primary care services. This integration could be enhanced by the inclusion of consumers in the planning process.
Aims: This study sought to bring the voice of the consumer with SMI to assist with the integration of primary care and mental health services.
Identifying the cellular origins and mapping the dendritic and axonal arbors of neurons have been century old quests to understand the heterogeneity among these brain cells. Current Brainbow based transgenic animals take the advantage of multispectral labeling to differentiate neighboring cells or lineages, however, their applications are limited by the color capacity. To improve the analysis throughput, we designed Bitbow, a digital format of Brainbow which exponentially expands the color palette to provide tens of thousands of spectrally resolved unique labels.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTraditional general linear model-based brain mapping efforts using functional neuroimaging are complemented by more recent multivariate pattern analyses (MVPA) that apply machine learning techniques to identify the cognitive states associated with regional BOLD activation patterns, and by connectivity analyses that identify networks of interacting regions that support particular cognitive processes. We introduce a novel analysis representing the union of these approaches, and explore the insights gained when MVPA and functional connectivity analyses are allowed to mutually constrain each other within a single model. View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe investigated the efficacy of graph-theoretic metrics of task-related functional brain connectivity in predicting reading difficulty and explored the hypothesis that task conditions emphasizing audiovisual integration would be especially diagnostic of reading difficulty. An fMRI study was conducted in which 24 children (8 to 14 years old) who were previously diagnosed with dyslexia completed a rhyming judgment task under three presentation modality conditions. Regression analyses found that characteristic connectivity metrics of the reading network showed a presentation modality dependent relationship with reading difficulty: Children with more segregated reading networks and those that used fewer of the available connections were those with the least severe reading difficulty.

Background And Objective: Antineuronal antibodies have been implicated in tic and obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD) associated with group A streptococcal infections. We investigated antineuronal autoantibody levels as well as antibody-mediated neuronal cell signaling activity, as previously reported for Sydenham chorea and pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder associated with streptococci (PANDAS), to determine immunological profiles for a large cohort of children with tics and/or OCD.
Methods: Study participants (n=311; ages 4-27 years, 66% male) were selected from a larger group of individuals with self-reported neuropsychiatric symptoms (n=742) and included only those with accurate knowledge of group A streptococcal infection status, except for four individuals in whom streptococcal infection status was unknown.
Purpose/objectives: The purpose of this study was to measure changes in perceptions of healthcare providers (HCPs) in the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) before and after an implementation of an educational program that included approval of a unit-based guideline for family presence (FP) during resuscitation and invasive procedures.
Design: A descriptive pretest and posttest design was used to measure changes in perception for FP during resuscitation and invasive procedures.
Setting: The setting for this study was a CICU of a large academic medical center.
