Drug testing for clinical toxicology purposes is difficult given the variety of drugs and substances that can be abused. High-resolution mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for the qualitative identification of compounds in the blood and urine of exposed individuals. The interpretation of results can be greatly improved if caregivers and/or laboratorians are able to communicate with patients, family members, friends, or law enforcement (where appropriate), in order to obtain and test the drugs, plants, herbals, or chemicals that were taken.

Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection can be detected indirectly by measuring the host immune response. For some viruses, antibody concentrations correlate with host protection and viral neutralization, but in rare cases, antiviral antibodies can promote disease progression. Elucidation of the kinetics and magnitude of the SARS-CoV-2 antibody response is essential to understand the pathogenesis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and identify potential therapeutic targets.
