Male cat, 2 years old, with a refractory infection by Sporothrix brasiliensis, presents a single nodular lesion in the left auricular pavilion. To confirm the diagnosis, cytology, fungal culture, antifungal susceptibility test, molecular analysis, and, to aid in the differential diagnosis, bacterial culture, antibiogram, and histopathology of the lesion were performed. In the absence of therapeutic success with conventional antifungals, photodynamic therapy (PDT) was introduced, demonstrating a satisfactory response in the sixth treatment session.

Unlabelled: HIV-infected patients are at particular risk for invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD). We describe cases of IPD in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and find associated risk factors for infection and death.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study, nested in a cohort, including PLWHA with and without IPD, conducted in Brazil, 2005-2020.

A prospective study was conducted in Brazil to evaluate antimicrobial resistance patterns and molecular epidemiology of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with chronic lung infection. All isolates were obtained between May 2009 and June 2010 from 75 patients seen in four reference centers in Brazil: HCPA (20 patients) and HEOM (15 patients), located in southern and northeastern Brazil, respectively; IFF (20 patients) and HUPE (20 patients), both in southwestern Brazil. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing, PCR for detection of carpapenemases, and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) were performed in 274 isolates.
