Thalattosuchians represent one of the several independent transitions into the marine realm among crocodylomorphs. The extent of their aquatic adaptations ranges from the semiaquatic teleosauroids, superficially resembling extant gharials, to the almost cetacean-like pelagic metriorhynchids.
