Background: Although the direct anterior (DA) approach has increased in popularity for primary total hip arthroplasty (THA), there is limited evidence regarding its use for revision THA. It is unknown whether the dislocation benefit seen in the primary setting translates to revision cases.
Methods: This retrospective review compared the dislocation rates of revision THA performed through DA versus postero-lateral (PL) approaches at a single institution (2011 to 2021).
Objectives: To report our experiences in implementing a behavioral health integration pathway, including a validated depression screening and referral to care.
Design: Retrospective case series.
Setting: Single surgeon's musculoskeletal trauma outpatient practice during calendar year 2019.
The tibial joint line is offset posteriorly relative to the tibial sagittal anatomic axis. This can have consequences when using stemmed implants during total knee arthroplasty. We retrospectively analyzed native knee lateral radiographs in 100 patients.

After imaging and laboratory workup, he underwent operative irrigation, debridement, and antibiotic therapy with complete resolution of his symptoms. Surgical cultures were consistent with SC septic arthritis.

A body mass index (BMI) cutoff of 40 is frequently used to determine eligibility for TKA. Patients with a BMI <40 and extremely large legs which may predispose them to complications are approved for surgery because they fall below this cutoff.

Of the US physicians surveyed, almost half report having prescribed an inappropriate opioid due to concerns about patient satisfaction scores. We investigated patterns in controlled substance prescribing practices, patient risk factors, and associated Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores at a sample of orthopaedic surgery and primary care clinics over a 6month time period.

Students applied to an average of 79 programs, resulting in in a total of 89,846 applications being submitted for 727 first year residency positions. This ratio of 124 applications per position is two SDs above the mean relative to other medical specialties.

Introduction: Opioids are widely used after orthopaedic procedures. Nonmedical opioid use is a growing public health issue.
Methods: An anonymous online survey was distributed by e-mail to the orthopaedic societies of all 50 states and several large private practices to assess practicing orthopaedic surgeons' opioid prescribing practices.
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries pose a significant risk to the careers of players in the National Football League (NFL). The relationships between draft round and position on return to play (RTP) among NFL players are not well understood, and the ability to return to preinjury performance levels remains unknown for most positions.
Purpose: To test for differences in RTP rates and changes in performance after an ACL injury by position and draft round.
Background: Much controversy still exists surrounding graft choice in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Over the past decade, an increase in comparative studies with longer follow-up has enhanced our understanding of current graft options and outcomes.
Purpose: To describe the long-term comparative outcomes of ACL reconstruction with autograft bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) versus autograft hamstring (HS) ACL reconstruction with regard to clinical and radiographic outcomes.
Purpose: To collect the highest level of evidence comparing anatomic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction via independent tunnel drilling using bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) and hamstring tendon (HT) autografts in terms of clinical outcome and failure rate.
Methods: We performed a systematic review of clinical trials that randomized patients to ACL reconstruction with either BTB or HT autografts with a minimum 2-year follow-up. Only trials using independent tunnel drilling, including outside-in and anteromedial portal techniques, for both autografts were eligible for inclusion, whereas all transtibial studies were excluded.
Intention to resume high-risk sports activity is a major motivating factor for patients who elect anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction rather than nonoperative treatment. Some patients are able to cope with an ACL-deficient knee and resume preinjury activity levels, including level-1 sports (football, basketball, soccer, etc.), following nonoperative treatment; however, activity levels correlate with injury risk in ACL-deficient knees.

Purpose: To quantify the impact of ACL injuries on salary and career length in NFL athletes.
Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.
Proximal humerus fractures are relatively common, with treatment dependent on fracture-specific, patient-specific, and surgeon-specific factors. This study sought to identify preferences among shoulder specialists and orthopedic traumatologists in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures. An anonymous Internet survey of fellowship-trained shoulder surgeons and traumatologists was conducted with radiographs and select computed tomography images of 15 unique displaced proximal humerus fractures.

Various prophylactic agents have been used to minimize this complication after TJA. Numerous studies have demonstrated that acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) has equivalent efficacy to other agents in preventing VTE after TJA.

Purpose: This retrospective epidemiological study analyzed all publicly disclosed ACL tears occurring in NFL players between 2010 and 2013 to characterize injury trends and determine the incidence of reinjury.
Study Design: Descriptive epidemiological study.
Background: Effective pain management after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction improves patient satisfaction and function.
Purpose: To collect and evaluate the available evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on pain control after ACL reconstruction.
Study Design: Systematic review.
Background: The Internet has become the most widely-used source for patients seeking information more about their health and many sites geared towards this audience have gained widespread use in recent years. Additionally, many healthcare institutions publish their own patient-education web sites with information regarding common conditions. Little is known about how these resources impact patient health, though, as they have the potential both to inform and to misinform patients regarding their prognosis and possible treatments.
