Current treatment of pediatric empyema.

Pneumonia with complicated parapneumonic effusion and empyema is increasing in incidence and continues to be a source of morbidity in children seen in our institution. Current diagnostic modalities include chest radiographs and CT scanning with ultrasound being helpful in some situations. Exact management of empyema remains controversial.
