All mammalian and microbial enzymes identified to date are members of the heme oxygenase superfamily and assume similar monomeric structures with an all alpha-helical fold. Here we describe the crystal structures of IsdG and IsdI, two heme-degrading enzymes from Staphylococcus aureus.
