Analytical quantification of the inflammatory cell infiltrate and CD95R expression during treatment of drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis.

The treatment of drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) remains unsatisfactory. Intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg) and intravenous cyclosporin A (CsA) have shown some efficacy in short series of patients. We assessed the effects of IVIg and CsA on TEN lesional and apparently uninvolved skin using standard histology and immunohistochemistry.

Drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis and pancytopenia: a puzzling association.

The molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) remain not fully understood. We report a unique case of antibiotic-induced TEN developed in a patient who also suffered from prolonged severe methotrexate-induced pancytopenia. Unlabelled: When used alone, lipid-soluble epidural opioids are thought to produce analgesia supraspinally via systemic absorption. However, spinal opioids and local anesthetics have been shown to act synergistically at the spinal level in animal studies. We, therefore, tested the hypothesis that sufentanil requirements will be less when given epidurally than IV in patients simultaneously given epidural bupivacaine after major abdominal surgery.

Recurrent fatal drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome) after putative beta-lactam cross-reactivity: Case report and scrutiny of antibiotic imputability.

Objective: A series of antibiotics may be responsible for toxic epidermal necrolysis. We report two successive episodes of toxic epidermal necrolysis in the same patient. Drug imputability criteria designate a cross-reactivity between two antibiotics of different chemical classes but sharing the beta-lactam ring in common.
