The safe management of sewage waste is a current concern due to population growth and waste production. Biosolids, derived from sewage sludge treatment, are globally used as organic fertilizers, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 6 for resource recycling. However, biosafety concerns arise due to the presence of metals and microplastics in biosolids, potentially impacting soil and water.

Unlabelled: Based on the effectiveness of resveratrol and curcumin in carcinogenesis, (E)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-N'-((E)-4-methoxybenzylidene) acrylohydrazide (PQM-162), curcumin-resveratrol hybrid derivative, was designed by molecular hybridization using a hydrazone functionality as a spacer moiety between pharmacophoric fragments inspired by the parent compounds.
Objectives: The present study aimed to evaluate the chemopreventive effects of the hybrid against pre-neoplastic lesions induced in the colon of rodents.
Methods: The doses were determined based on the reduction in DNA damage induced by doxorubicin [15 mg/kg body weight (b.
Phosphites have been used as inducers of resistance, activating the defense of plants and increasing its ability to respond to the invasion of the pathogen. However, the mode of action of phosphites in defense responses has not yet been fully elucidated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of potassium phosphite (KPhi) in coffee cultivars with different levels of resistance to rust to clarify the mechanism by which KPhi activates the constitutive defense of plants.

Background: Prebiotics and probiotics may be effective dietary components that can alter the gut microbiota of the host and, consequently, overcome imbalances associated with obesity. This work aimed to evaluate the synergistic and isolated effects and mechanisms by which probiotic yogurt containing Bifidobacterium animalis and/or Lactobacillus acidophilus and yacon flour alter metabolic parameters and inflammatory and insulin signaling proteins in diet-induced obese mice. Swiss mice were fed a high-fat diet (n = 48) or a standard diet (control; n = 6) for 56 days.

The present study aimed to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQoL), sleep quality and sleepiness index in dentistry students at a university in Southeast Brazil, in different semesters of their course.
Materials And Methods: Samples were obtained from 55 students from the dentistry course at the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG).

Since dietary factors are thought to be responsible for high colon cancer risk, we investigated the chemopreventive effect of jabuticaba seed extract (LJE) by administering yogurt with or without LJE against 1,2 dimethyl hydrazine (DMH)-induced colon carcinogenesis in rats. Results showed that LJE contained a total phenolic content of 57.16 g/100 g of seed extract in which 7.

Sprouted and fermented foods have shown hypoglycemic effects on humans and animals, by reducing concentrations of soluble carbohydrates, and increasing dietary fiber and resistant starch content. In this study, diets with high levels of simple carbohydrates supplemented with toasted quinoa flour, sprouted and toasted quinoa flour, fermented and toasted quinoa flour or sprouted/fermented and toasted quinoa flour were given to Wistar rats. During the experiment, the glycemic index (GI) of the diets were measure and, at the end of 47 days of feeding, the effects of the diets on physical and biochemical parameters of the animals were evaluated.

Definitive diagnosis relies on direct visualization of the fungus or its isolation on culture medium, although both have low sensitivity. Alternatively, the detection of the antibody response offers a more rapid alternative for diagnosis.

This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of paracoccidioidal infection by intradermal reaction (Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity, DTH) to Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in rural areas in Alfenas, Southern Minas Gerais (MG) State, Brazil, and to assess risk factors (gender, occupation, age, alcohol intake and smoking) associated with infection. We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study using intradermal tests with gp 43 paracoccidioidin in 542 participants, who were previously contacted by local health agents and so spontaneously attended the test. Participants underwent an interview by filling out a registration form with epidemiological data and were tested with an intradermal administration of 0.
