Background/objectives: The thermogenic function of brown adipose tissue (BAT) is generally activated in winter and tightly regulated through various metabolic processes. However, the mechanisms mediating these changes have not been elucidated in humans. Here, we investigated the relationships between BAT density (BAT-d) and lipid metabolites in plasma from men and women in the winter and summer.

Effect of storage conditions on salivary polyamines quantified via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Salivary polyamines are potential non-invasive tools for screening various types of cancers. For clinical use, the reproducibility of these metabolites should be evaluated under various storage conditions, including duration and temperature, to establish standard operating protocols. Polyamines and amino acids in unstimulated whole saliva were quantified via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Lupeol supplementation improves blood pressure and lipid metabolism parameters in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Supplementation with lupeol (0.67 g·kg(-1)) of the AIN-93M-based diet fed for 7 weeks to stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats caused significantly decreased blood pressure as compared with a control group. Urinary 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine was significantly lower in the lupeol group.
