Methods: Various upper gastrointestinal cancer cells (OE19, OE33, MKN1, MKN45, MKN74, and AGS) were divided into arginine-treated and -untreated groups and cultured using two-dimensional and three-dimensional culture systems. Proliferation was evaluated using the MTT assay to identify arginine-sensitive (OE33) and arginine-insensitive (OE19) strains.

In classical cell culture techniques, cancer cells typically proliferate in a single layer by adhering to the undersurface of laboratory vessels. Consequently, concerns have been raised regarding the fidelity of the morphological and functional characteristics of these cultured cancer cells compared to those of their counterparts. Our previous studies have investigated various epithelial malignant tumors utilizing the Tissueoid cell culture system, a three-dimensional (3D) cultivation method employing Cellbed-a nonwoven sheet composed of high-purity silica fibers as a scaffold.

Human satellite II (HSATII), composed of tandem repeats in pericentromeric regions, is aberrantly transcribed in epithelial cancers, particularly pancreatic cancer. Dysregulation of repetitive elements in cancer tissues can facilitate incidental dsRNA formation; however, it remains controversial whether dsRNAs play tumor-promoting or tumor-suppressing roles during cancer progression. Therefore, we focused on the double-stranded formation of HSATII RNA and explored its molecular function.

Actinomyces odontolyticus is one of the most abundant bacteria in the gut of patients with very early stages of CRC.

Desmosine (DES) and isodesmosine (IDES) are potential biomarkers of pathologies that lead to decreased elastin turnover. Mice are commonly used in research to mimic humans because of their similar genetics, physiology, and organ systems.

However, the phytochemistry of the active fraction was unknown. Here we report, for the first time, the isolation and characterization of four known α-pyrones from the active fraction.

Elastin endows critical mechanical properties to tissues and organs such as vertebrae and ligaments. Desmosine (DES) and isodesmosine (IDES) are crosslinkers of elastin monomers called tropoelastin.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, great effort has been made to reposition existing drugs to shorten development timelines, in addition to vaccine development and drug discovery campaigns. Umifenovir is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent used to treat influenza in China and Russia and is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19.

Mycosis fungoides is a low-grade lymphoma, but on reaching the tumor stage, it can cause cardiac tamponade owing to epicardial infiltration. Myocardial infiltration, even in the absence of abnormal imaging findings, requires attention because it can lead to arrhythmia and cardiac arrest.

While it was recently shown that the ability of HBV X protein (HBx) to impair the Smc5/6 (structural maintenance of chromosome 5/6) complex is important for viral transcription, HBx is also a potent driver of HCC. However, the mechanism by which HBx expression induces hepatocarcinogenesis is unclear.

We conducted a prospective clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of dose-adjusted treatment based on the VES-13 in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM). In the Fit group (VES-13 <3), patients were treated with 4 cycles of standard-dose VCD (bortezomib, cyclophosphamide, and dexamethasone) followed by 4 cycles of standard-dose VTD (bortezomib, thalidomide, and dexamethasone).

First, the Revolver standard element probe λ2 was weakly hybridized throughout the rye chromosome, and comparatively large interstitial signals spotted with a dot shape were detected together with several telomeric regions. The dot shape interstitial signal was stably detected at one site on Chromosome (Chr) 1R (middle part of the interstitial region of the short arm), three sites on Chr 2R (distal part of the interstitial region and adjacent to the centromere on the short arm, middle part of the interstitial region of the long arm), and two sites on Chr 5R (middle part of the interstitial region and adjacent to the centromere on the long arm).

The expression pattern of circRNA varies among cell types and tissues, and many circRNAs are aberrantly expressed in various cancers. Aberrantly expressed circRNAs have been shown to play crucial roles in carcinogenesis, functioning as microRNA sponges or new templates for protein translation.

Cytotoxic lymphocytes expressing natural killer group 2D (NKG2D) receptor recognize MICA/B and eliminate the cells. However, cancer cells evade such immune recognition by inducing proteolytic shedding of MICA/B proteins.

Because of various modes of presentation and its rarity, IVL is often diagnosed postmortem. Herein, we report a case of intravascular B-cell lymphoma with hypopituitarism, an extremely rare complication, that was successfully treated with chemotherapy.

Although circRNAs are expressed under specific conditions, current understanding of their comprehensive expression status is still limited. Here, we performed a large-scale circRNA profiling analysis in human pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) tissues, using circular RNA-specific RNA sequencing.

Patients with AITL often have skin lesions, which are observed in 50% of all cases; the chief complaint of this patient was palpable purpura. AITL often complicates autoimmune or hematological disorders; however, among these, pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) is a very rare complication of AITL.

As a result of the questionnaire survey, there were seen 4 groups. There were a group that was conscious of shelter support, a group who felt that they did not have aptitude for disaster relief, a group that was conscious of general support and logistical support, and a group that showed a negative attitude towards disaster relief.
