Purpose: Unexpected cancellations of planned elective procedures are a global problem for hospitals, causing a waste of hospital resources and manpower, and reduces the efficiency of hospitals. In this study, we tried to identify the causes of cancellations of elective procedures, and to examine the relationship between the causes.

Design: A retrospective, descriptive single-center study.

Context: Sugammadex has steroid-encapsulating effect.

Aim: This study was undertaken to assess whether the clinical efficacy of sugammadex was altered by the administration of steroids.

Setting And Design: Sixty patients between 18 and 60 years of age with the American Society of Anesthesiologists I-IV and undergoing elective direct laryngoscopy/biopsy were included in this study.

Objective: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the effect of a restructured anaesthesia intensive care unit (ICU) on changes in infection rates and infections.

Methods: Organisational restructuring was done in the anaesthesia ICU of Firat University Hospital after it was relocated on 14 March 2012. This study was designed to investigate the effect of restructuring on infection rates through a comparison of periods encompassing one year before relocation and one year after relocation.

Objective: To evaluate the early and late effects of sevoflurane on the neonatal brain.

Background: Sevoflurane is the most used anaesthetics in neonatal subjects.

Methods: The study included 7-day-old male Wistar-Albino rats (n = 30), which were divided into the two groups according to the anaesthetic received: sevoflurane (S) and control group (C).

Purpose: We evaluated the effects of body mass index (BMI) on thermoregulation in obese patients scheduled to undergo laparoscopic abdominal surgery.

Methods: Sixty patients scheduled to undergo laparoscopic abdominal surgery with no pre-medication were included in the study. The patients were classified into 4 groups according to BMI <24.

Background: Severe postoperative pain is not often experienced in laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Anesthesia, surgery, and pain are stressful and cause different reactions in neuro-immuno-endocrine systems. Many factors such as the pharmacological effect of the drugs used, as well as the type and depth of anesthesia, can affect these reactions.

Objective: Serum Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) levels are associated with neurotransmission and cognitive functions. The goal of this study was to examine the effect of general anesthesia on BDNF levels. It was also to reveal whether this effect had a relationship with the surgical stress response or not.

Objective: The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the intensive care unit treatments applied to obstetrics patients with a diagnosis of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES).

Material And Methods: The cases of 7 pregnant patients who had been diagnosed with PRES between July 2011 and July 2013 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients' clinical data, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images before and after treatment, and neuropsychological tests were evaluated.

Context: Appendectomy is generally conducted as open or by laparoscopic surgical techniques under general anesthesia.

Aims: This study aims to compare the anesthetic costs of the patients, who underwent open or laparoscopic appendectomy under general anesthesia.

Settings And Design: The design is retrospective and records of 379 patients who underwent open or laparoscopic appendectomy under general anesthesia, falling under the category of I-III risk group according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification between the years 2011 and 2013, and aged 18-77.

Background: Following maternal administration, local anesthetics pass into breast milk. In the present study, we aimed to compare the passage of levobupivacaine and bupivacaine into breast milk following epidural anesthesia for cesarean delivery.

Methods: A total of 20 women undergoing elective cesarean delivery under epidural anesthesia were randomized to receive either 0.

Objectives: Just as hip prosthesis, most of the patients undergoing orthopedic lower extremity surgery (OLES) belong to the advanced age group. Sciatic nerve block combined with psoas compartment block is used as a technique alternative to central neuraxial block and GA. In geriatric patients that will undergo partial hip prosthesis, the effects of the methods of unilateral spinal anesthesia (SA) and L1 paravertebral block combined with psoas compartment block (PCB) and sciatic nerve block (PCSL) on peroperative hemodynamic parameters and the duration of need for postoperative analgesia were studied.

A circumcision was planned for a four-month-old infant under local anesthesia. After the application of lidocaine, the infant stopped crying, and then generalized tonic-clonic convulsions and a diffuse erythematous rash developed. The patient was immediately monitored, ventilation was provided, and 1 mg midazolam was given intramuscularly.

Background: We aimed to investigate the oral carbohydrate solution administered preoperatively on thermoregulation.

Material And Methods: The study included 40 female patients under general anesthesia. Patients were randomly divided into 2 groups: Group CONT (stopped oral implementation 8 h before the operation) and Group CHO (800ml oral carbohydrate fluid 8 h before the operation and 400ml oral carbohydrate fluid 2 h before the operation).

Potatoes contain solanaceous glycoalkaloids (SGAs), which inhibit both butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE). The present study investigated the effect of preoperative consumption of potatoes on succinylcholine-induced block and recovery from anesthesia. ASA I-II, adult patients, scheduled for elective surgery, were included in a randomized, blind and controlled study.

Characterised by lymphocytic infiltration of exocrine glands, Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disease. Symptoms belonging to the involved systems may occur owing to the fact that it affects multiple systems. While rheumatoid arthritis is observed concomitantly, its co-occurrence with autoimmune hepatitis is astonishingly common.

Context: Endotracheal tube cuff pressure (ETCP) is recommended to be maintained between 20-30 cm H2O limits. While insufficient inflation of ETC may cause aspirations, over-inflation of it may lead to damage in tracheal epithelium.

Aims: We planned to investigate the effects of user experience and cuff pressure inflation method differences following endotracheal tube cuff pressure and complaints about it.

Purpose: The purpose of our study was to determine the effects of anesthetic technique and ambient temperature on thermoregulation for patients undergoing lower extremity surgery.

Methods: Our study included 90 male patients aged 18-60 years in American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status groups I or II who were scheduled for lower extremity surgery. Patients were randomly divided into three groups according to anesthetic technique: general anesthesia (GA), epidural anesthesia (EA), and femoral-sciatic block (FS).

Percutanous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) was performed on a patient in a prone position. During the first hour of intervention, some unwanted haemodynamic complications arose, which included a decrease in systemic blood pressure, an increase in heart rate and an increase in peak inspiratory pressures. Owing to worsening of those unexplained haemodynamic abnormalities, surgery was terminated.
