During last decades, laryngeal organ preservation strategies have emerged. The data about the oncological outcomes mainly come from multi-institutional prospective studies. In this study, we aimed to determine the oncological outcomes of different organ preservation regimens applied in routine practice.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the demographic and clinicopathologic data of salivary gland tumors managed at a tertiary referral medical center in Turkey. The data of 510 patients with salivary gland tumors managed during the period of January 1984 to May 2012, were reviewed. Only primary neoplasms derived from salivary glands were included.

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the role of EBV in the aetiology of laryngeal carcinoma.
Method: Prospective investigation the EBV with real time polymerase chain reaction in tumour tissues of 25 patients with laryngeal carcinoma and 17 patients with benign laryngeal lesions, and investigation of the relationship between the presence of viral DNA and patients' smoking habits, alcohol consumption, localization and differentiation of the tumour.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine and compare the pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) rates in patients undergoing primary total laryngectomy (TL) or those undergoing salvage TL following radiotherapy (RT)/chemoradiotherapy (CRT) failure.
Patients And Methods: Between January 2006 and January 2012, medical records of 91 male patients (mean age 61.0+10.
The objective of this study is to determine the clinical characteristics and to evaluate the treatment options of intractable neck involvement in tularemia. The medical records of 19 tularemia patients with neck involvement were reviewed retrospectively. On physical examination, fluctuation indicating an abscess formation was detected in 78.

We have examined the presence of EBV in palatine tonsils and relationship between EBV-DNA quantity in tonsil tissues and VCA-IgG quantity in autologous sera. Tonsils were obtained from 36 patients, male 20 (55.

Method: Paraffin wax-embedded sections consisting of 89 laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers from 210 patients were analyzed. Tissue samples were amplified by using a glucose 6-phosphatase dehydrogenase (G6PDH) control kit (Eurogentec, Seraing, Belgium), and G6PDH-positive samples were thought to have appropriate tissues by using a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction kit (DNA mini kit, Qiagen, Germany).

Schwannomas are common tumors of the head and neck region, but they rarely develop in the suboccipital region. A 34-year-old woman presented with a left suboccipital mass causing local pain and neck stiffness. Following physical examination, fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed, which revealed benign cytology.

Objective: Serotonergic neurons innervating motoneurons increase their firing rates in response to respiratory challenges, and long-term facilitation of respiratory activity in response to hypoxia is serotonin (5-HT) dependent. Polymorphism of the genes which code for 5-HT receptors may affect functions of the serotonergic system, and may be associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). The objective in this study was to assess the significance of T102C and -1438G/A polymorphisms of the 5-HT2A receptor gene in OSAS.

Background: To investigate the accessory nerve function in lateral selective neck dissections (LSND) performed in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients without dissection of level IIB.
Methods: Fifteen LSND were performed in 11 N0 laryngeal carcinoma patients with preservation of level IIB. Distal latencies, compound muscle action potentials (CMAP), and electromyography findings were investigated before surgery, during the 3rd postoperative week, and 3 months thereafter to compare the effects of the procedure on the accessory nerve.

Objectives: To assess the rate of thyroid gland invasion and the need for thyroidectomy in advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinomas that require total laryngectomy.
Patients And Methods: Between 1994 and 2001, 129 total laryngectomy with ipsilateral hemithyroidectomy and 14 total laryngopharyngectomy with total thyroidectomy operations were performed for primary squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx. In the surgical specimens of the patients, the presence of tumor invasion to the thyroid cartilage and thyroid gland was evaluated retrospectively by light microscopic examination.
Objectives: We investigated the value of some tumor markers in the diagnosis and treatment follow-up of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck.
Patients And Methods: Ferritin, lipid-associated sialic acid (LSA), carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) antigen and CYFRA 21-1 levels were determined in 28 patients with squamous cell carcinoma and in a control group of 20 patients with benign lesions of the head and neck. The measurements were made before treatment and in the first and third months of treatment.
We studied the incidence of Frey's syndrome and facial contour deformity in two groups of patients who had undergone superficial parotidectomy. One group was made up of 12 patients who were randomized to undergo reconstruction of the surgical defect with a sternocleidomastoid muscle flap; the other 12 patients did not receive a flap. All 24 patients were evaluated via a short questionnaire, the starch-iodine test, and a visual examination.

Patients And Methods: The study included 20 male patients (mean age 53 years; range 39 to 67 years) who underwent HSL for squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx. Tumor stages were T1 in two, T2 in 16 , and T3 in two patients.

Objectives: In a rabbit model of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, we monitored histopathologic changes and assessed the effect of selenium against carcinogenesis.
Study Design: The study included 36 male albino New Zealand rabbits. To induce squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, 9,10-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene (DMBA)-acetone solution was applied three times a week for a duration of 20 weeks under anesthesia with xylazine hydrochloride and ketamine.
Background: To compare pharyngoesophageal segment (PES) pressure values in total laryngectomy patients with and without pharyngeal neurectomy (PN) in the early postoperative period.
Methods: Forty-five previously untreated laryngeal carcinoma patients were enrolled into this prospective randomized study. Twenty of them underwent total laryngectomy with PN, and 25 underwent total laryngectomy without PN.

In order to evaluate lymphatic metastasis to the supraretrospinal recess (SRSR) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), we separately dissected SRSR lymph nodes and submitted them to pathological examination. Fifty-three lateral neck dissections (LNDs), 2 radical neck dissections (RNDs), and 19 modified RNDs were performed in 49 previously untreated patients with laryngeal SCC. The nodal status of the patients was N0 in 29 patients, N1 in 17, and N2 in 3.
