This study aims to investigate the effect of amantadine use on neurological outcomes and mortality in patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Glasgow coma score [GCS] between 3 and 8) who have been followed up on mechanical ventilators in the intensive care unit (ICU). Data from the hospital's electronic records were retrospectively searched. Patients over 18 years of age, with severe brain trauma (GCS between 3-8), who were treated with endotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation at admission to the ICU, and who were treated with Amantadine hydrochloride at least once in the first week of follow-up were included in the study.

Introduction: Clinical management strategy and the best treatment option of free floating thrombus (FFT), detected in patients with acute ischemic cerebrovascular diseases is still uncertain due to the rarity of these conditions. Recent studies emphasize that FFT within cerebral vessels may not be a surgical emergency since complete dissolution without any further neurologic progression occurred in 86% of patients treated medically. Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (PLE) associated with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) often presents with antibodies to intracellular antigens and a poor outcome even after tumor resection and immunotherapy. We report a PLE patient presenting with generalized seizures, shortterm memory impairment and medial temporal lobe hyperintensity in MRI. Initial screening revealed significantly elevated thyroid antibody levels suggesting Hashimoto's encephalopathy.

In the present study, we determined the significance of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) in Alzheimer's disease (AD). We characterized the expression of TRAIL protein in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum with ELISA and TRAIL mRNA in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) with real-time PCR in 22 patients with AD and 20 control cases. We could not find TRAIL protein in the CSF samples.
