Neuropsychiatric Approaches to Essential and Functional Tremor: A Comparative Study.

Purpose: Differentiating essential tremor (ET) from functional tremor (FT) remains a challenge due to their overlapping clinical presentations. This study aimed to elucidate the demographic and psychometric differences between the aforementioned tremor types to enhance diagnostic accuracy and therapeutic strategies.

Patients And Methods: This prospective study included 96 patients diagnosed with ET or FT and analysed their related demographic data, clinical symptoms, and psychometric evaluation scores.

Evaluation of retinal microvascular changes with OCT-A in Parkinson disease and essential tremor.

This study aimed to evaluate the presence and comparison of microvascular abnormalities in essential tremor (ET) and Parkinson disease (PD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) and to show the relationship between retinal microvascular changes and disease stage in the patient group. A total of 176 eyes, including 26 PD diagnosed according to the United Kingdom PD Society Brain Bank criteria, 31 ET diagnosed according to the Washington heights-inwood genetic study of ET (WHIGET) criteria and 31 healthy controls, were included in the study. Unified PD assessment scale (UPDRS) motor scores, non-motor symptom scale (NMS), modified Hoehn&Yahr stages (mH&Y) and Fahn-Toloso-Marin grading scale were recorded.

Background: The aim of the study was to investigatie apathy and cognitive functions in Parkinson's disease patients who underwent deep brain stimulation surgery on bilateral subthalamic nuclei.

Methods: This study included 18 patients with Parkinson's disease who were accommodated in the Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center of Adana City Training and Research Hospital for treatment in 2022. Patients were evaluated by psychiatry, neurology and neurosurgery specialists with a multidisciplinary approach and found to be surgically appropriate.
