Article Synopsis
  • * Recent advancements in bioluminescence-based oxygen sensing, particularly with the Green enhanced Nano-lantern (GeNL), have revealed dynamic changes in brain oxygen levels, uncovering hypoxic pockets that could affect stroke resilience.
  • * These findings highlight the need to explore microenvironmental oxygen dynamics in treating stroke, suggesting that addressing hypoxia may improve rehabilitation strategies for survivors by leading to better therapeutic innovations.

Recent studies have shown that peripheral nerve regeneration process is closely related to neuropathic pain. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling was involved in different types of pain and nerve regeneration. TLR4 induced the recruitment of myeloid differentiation factor-88 adaptor protein (MyD88) and NF-κB-depended transcriptional process in sensory neurons and glial cells, which produced multiple cytokines and promoted the induction and persistence of pain.

Article Synopsis
  • A nationwide study was conducted among Chinese anesthesiologists to assess their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) between December 2022 and January 2023.
  • The study included 1,032 anesthesiologists, revealing good overall KAP scores, but highlighted specific areas needing improvement, particularly knowledge of anesthetic drugs that cause POCD and its treatment.
  • Demographic factors such as age, educational level, and professional title were linked to better KAP scores, indicating that enhanced training is necessary for better management of POCD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided modified thoracolumbar fascial plane block (MTLIP) versus traditional thoracolumbar fascial plane block (TLIP) for pain management after robotic lumbar surgeries.
  • It involved a randomized trial with 60 patients, measuring outcomes like dermatomal block area, pain scores, operation time, and patient satisfaction.
  • Results indicated that MTLIP provided similar pain control as TLIP, while showing advantages like shorter operation time and fewer punctures, thus supporting its use in postoperative care.

Context: The right internal jugular vein (RIJV) is often used for central venous catheterisation in patients undergoing major surgery. The efficacy of this route correlates with the diameter of the vein which can be influenced by airway pressure.

Objective: To investigate four positive airway pressures (PAPs) in mechanically ventilated patients and to determine the most suitable of these for RIJV catheterisation.

Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a severe sequela of herpes zoster (HZ). Until now, only age and pain severity were considered predisposing factors for the development of PHN. We evaluated 49 patients with acute phase HZ, 10 of whom developed PHN (Group A) and 39 of whom did not develop PHN (Group B).
