Urinary Neurotrophin Levels as Potential Biomarkers for Overactive Bladder: A Prospective Study.

Background: Overactive bladder (OAB) is an issue in the field of urology that is known for causing symptoms like urges to urinate frequently during the day and even at night (known as nocturia). Nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) play a vital role in the growth and operation of nerve cells in the body. New studies are indicating a connection between these neurotrophins and OAB; As such this research project was undertaken to explore how levels of NGT and BDNF in urine might be related to the presence of OAB in individuals.

Can atherogenic indices and the triglyceride-glucose index be used to predict erectile dysfunction?

Background: Atherosclerosis and insulin resistance play an important role in the development of erectile dysfunction (ED), and few studies have comprehensively evaluated more specific indicators like atherogenic indices and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in the assessment of ED.

Aim: This study aimed to reveal the role of atherogenic indices (atherogenic index of plasma [AIP], Castelli risk index-1/2 [CRI-1/2], and atherogenic coefficient [AC]) based on plasma lipid ratios, which have been used as more sensitive indicators of atherosclerosis in recent years, and the TyG index, a practical indicator of insulin resistance, in predicting vasculogenic ED.

Methods: The study included a total of 199 patients who met the inclusion criteria and a total of 51 control subjects without ED complaints according to the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) scores (>21) between May 2021 and October 2022.

Bladder stone due to late clip migration after prostatic urethral lift procedure: A case report.

Background: Prostatic urethral lift (PUL) therapy is an alternative to minimally invasive and other surgeries in younger patients who want to preserve their sexual and ejaculatory functions, and in elderly male patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who cannot be anesthetized because of the risk of anesthesia. The procedure can be performed as an outpatient and without anesthesia, and complications are few and temporary. In long-term follow-up, encrustations that require retreatment are rarely seen.

Iatrogenic bladder neck rupture due to traumatic urethral catheterization: A case report.

Background: In this article, we present a case of iatrogenic bladder neck rupture due to catheter insertion in a 94-year-old comorbid male patient.

Case Summary: The patient, who had a urethral catheter inserted in the palliative service 3 d ago, was consulted because the catheter did not work. Because the fluid given to the bladder could not be recovered, computed tomography was performed, which revealed that the catheter had passed the bladder neck first into the retrovesical area then into the intraabdominal area.

Comparison of serum Kim-1 and Miox levels in patients that underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy and flexible ureterorenoscopy.

Objective: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) are common surgical methods in the treatment of kidney stones. Possible effects on kidneys are an important factor in determining the surgical procedure and the surgical method. In our study, kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1) and myo-inositol oxygenase (MIOX) were used to compare acute kidney injury in patients that underwent PNL and RIRS.

Assessing the nitric oxide and asymmetric dimethylarginine levels in lifelong premature ejaculation: A prospective study.

Objective: To evaluate nitric oxide (NO) and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels in men with premature ejaculation (PE), which is a common condition that adversely affects quality of life.

Material And Method: Of the 20-50-year old men presenting to the urology clinic, who were married or had regular sexual intercourse, 40 that were diagnosed with lifelong PE according to the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) and intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) measured by a stopwatch were included in the study. The results of the PE group were compared to those of the control group formed with 40 healthy hospital personnel.

The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Urological Emergencies, 8 Months Results of a Multicenter Retrospective Study From Turkey.

Objectives: We aimed to reveal the change of urological emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the same period of the previous year.

Methods: The number of admissions to the emergency department (ED), admissions to the urology outpatient clinic, emergency urological consultations, and urological and emergency urological surgeries during the periods April-November-2019 and April-November-2020 were recorded. The data of the COVID-19 period were compared with the previous year.

Effect of sunitinib on testicular oxidative and proinflammatory damage induced by ischemia-reperfusion in rats.

Introduction: This study aimed to biochemically and histopathologically investigate the effect of sunitinib on oxidative testicular damage induced by ischemia/reperfusion in rats.

Material-method: Experimental animals were divided into three groups of six rats each: testicular torsion-detorsion (TTD), sunitinib+testicular torsion-detorsion (STD), and sham control (SC). Sunitinib (25mg/kg) was administered orally to the STD group by gavage.

Introduction: This study aimed to examine the relationship between urolithiasis and gastric wall fat halo sign (FHS).

Materials And Method: The data of 382 patients who presented to our clinic with the complaint of flank pain were analyzed retrospectively. According to the results of noncontrast computed tomography, the patients were divided into two groups those with ureteral stones (Group 1) and those without urinary stones (Group 2).

Development of a Novel Nomogram and a Simple Scoring System Using Ureteral Jet Flow to Predict Impacted Ureteral Stone.

To examine the efficacy of ureteral jet flow measured by Doppler ultrasonography (USG) together with radiological parameters obtained by noncontrast enhanced CT in predicting whether a ureteral stone is impacted. A total of 178 patients that met the criteria were included in the study. Stone size, location, grade of hydronephrosis, HU values of the stone and the proximal and distal parts of the stone, and ureteral wall thickness (UWT) were obtained from noncontrast enhanced abdominal CT images.

Objective: Melatonin is a hormone secreted from the pineal gland and has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. Oxidative stress is considered as an important factor in the etiology of erectile dysfunction (ED), and in many experimental models, positive results have been obtained with melatonin treatment. This study aimed to measure serum melatonin levels in ED patients and to investigate the possible relationship between ED and melatonin levels.

Evaluation of the effect of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery with Myo-Inositol Oxygenase.

In total, 43 of these operations were performed under spinal anesthesia (group I) and 43 were performed under general anesthesia (group II).

Objective: Recent studies have shown that atherosclerosis is associated with erectile dysfunction and the serum bilirubin level. In this study, the serum total bilirubin levels of patients with erectile dysfunction were measured to investigate the relationship between the levels of erectile dysfunction and total bilirubin.

Methods: A total of 94 patients with erectile dysfunction were divided into three groups; severe erectile dysfunction (33 patients), moderate erectile dysfunction (31 patients), and mild erectile dysfunction (30 patients).

Effect of obturator nerve block during transurethral resection of lateral bladder wall tumors on the presence of detrusor muscle in tumor specimens and recurrence of the disease.

We investigated the effect of spinal anesthesia combined with obturator nerve block (ONB) during the transurethral resection of lateral bladder wall tumors (TUR-BT) on the presence of detrusor muscle tissue in tumor specimens and on tumor recurrence. TUR-BT was performed on 96 patients with a lateral bladder wall tumor under spinal anesthesia in our clinic between January 2011 and December 2015. The patients were divided into two groups: 49 patients only received spinal anesthesia and 47 patients received spinal anesthesia combined with ONB.

Effect of tadalafil 5mg daily treatment on the ejaculatory times, lower urinary tract symptoms and erectile function in patients with erectile dysfunction.

Objective: To investigate the effect of a 5mg daily tadalafil treatment on the ejaculation time, erectile function and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with erectile dysfunction.

Posterior Urethral Polyp: First Holmium-YAG Laser Ablation on a 3-Month-Old Infant.

Background: Urethral polyps are rare benign pathologies seen in the male posterior urethra, more frequently originating from verumontanum. In this article, we aimed to discuss diagnosis and treatment of a urethral polyp causing hematuria and urinary infection in a 3-month-old male infant. This is the first case in the literature in which a urethral polyp is treated with Holmium yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) laser.

Rigid Ureteroscope Aided Insertion of Ureteral Access Sheath in Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery.

Objective: To compare the outcomes of the ureteral access sheath (UAS) placement techniques in patients undergoing retrograde intrarenal surgery.

Materials And Methods: The patients were divided into two groups with respect to placement method of UAS. UAS was placed with the classical method, through the guidewire, in the first group of the patients (group I).

Introduction: Erectile dysfunction (ED) and coronary artery disease (CAD) are closely related as a result of endothelial dysfunction leading to the restriction of blood flow. ED is a potential independent risk factor of CAD.
