Objective: To report the statistical analysis plan (first version) for the Balanced Solutions versus Saline in Intensive Care Study (BaSICS).
Methods: BaSICS is a multicenter factorial randomized controlled trial that will assess the effects of Plasma-Lyte 148 versus 0.9% saline as the fluid of choice in critically ill patients, as well as the effects of a slow (333mL/h) versus rapid (999mL/h) infusion speed during fluid challenges, on important patient outcomes.
Objective: To evaluate the association between plasma myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels and angiographic severity of coronary atherosclerotic lesions in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (ACS).
Design And Methods: This cross-sectional study examined high-risk ACS patients who underwent coronary angiography within 72 h of the onset of symptoms by measuring their plasma MPO levels after sheath insertion. Gensini score was used to evaluate angiographic severity of coronary artery disease.
Objective: To assess the effectiveness of metoprolol in preventing clinically detectable atrial fibrillation (AF) and flutter after coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Methods: An open, randomized study was carried out to treat 200 patients who had undergone isolated CABG surgery with extracorporeal circulation. The patients were randomized to either receive metoprolol orally or not to receive the medication in the postoperative period.
