- - Spargana were collected from humans and frogs in Liaoning and Hubei Provinces in China, with DNA extracted from 7 specimens (5 human, 2 frog) for analysis.
- - PCR amplification of the cox1 gene fragment revealed a 97-100% similarity to the reference sequence of S. erinaceieuropaei, and 88-89% to S. decipiens, with minimal genetic variation among the samples.
- - The findings represent the first documented occurrence of S. erinaceieuropaei spargana in humans from these regions, showing very little genetic difference (1-3%) between samples from humans and frogs.
