Controlled synthesis of ternary acrylamide/sodium acrylate/polyethyleneglycol hybrids by integrating different clays and fillers: a comprehensive evaluation of structural features.

A series of anionic poly(acrylamide--sodium acrylate)/poly(ethylene glycol), PAN/PEG, hybrids were conveniently synthesized free radical aqueous polymerization by integrating bentonite, kaolin, mica, graphene and silica, following a simple and eco-friendly crosslinking methodology. A comparative perspective was presented on how integrated nanofillers affect the physicochemical properties of hybrid gels depending on the differences in their structures. Among the five types of nanofillers, bentonite-integrated hybrid gel had the highest water absorbency, while graphene-integrated gel had the lowest.

Activity of CDK4/6 inhibitors and parameters affecting survival in elderly patients in age-subgroups: Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) retrospective study.

Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Molecular modeling and cytotoxic activity studies of oxirane-2-carboxylate derivatives.

In this study, five 3-aryloxirane-2-carboxylate derivatives were prepared, and the antiproliferative activities of molecules were screened in lung and colon cancer cell lines. The results showed that molecules had antiproliferative activity on cancerous cells with IC values under 100 µM. Furthermore, all of the molecules were found to have a much higher cytotoxic effect than cisplatin in colon cancer cells.

The concurrent challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and a significant earthquake in Izmir on October 30, 2020, presented a unique scenario for disaster management and response. This study focuses on the impact of the earthquake, which resulted in 117 fatalities, including 1 due to drowning, and injured 1034 individuals, alongside widespread structural damage including to the Izmir Democracy University Buca Seyfi Demirsoy Training and Research Hospital. The objective is to assess the activation and implementation of the hospital disaster plan amidst the ongoing pandemic.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibition is one of the cornerstones of treatment in the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Since RCC is a disease of advanced age and hypertension as a side effect of VEGF receptor inhibitors, beta-blocker use is common in these patients. We aimed to compare the treatment efficacy and survival results in case of concomitant use of these two drugs due to the inhibition of VEGF in beta-blockers.

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are associated with pain and lead to reduced mobility and quality of life for patients. Radon therapy is used as alternative or complementary to pharmaceutical treatments. According to previous reports, radon spa leads to analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, but the cellular and molecular mechanisms are widely unknown.

Structure-property relationships of epoxy functionalized enoate ester-based tailored hybrid gels doped with different polysaccharides.

Natural polymer-based cryogenically structured hybrid gels as support matrices were prepared by constructing synergistic multiple interactions among copolymer poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate--glycidyl methacrylate) and different polysaccharides; hyaluronic acid (HyA), dextrin (Dex), maltodextrin (MDex), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and xanthan gum (XG). Great improvement in thermal stability was achieved in the presence of CMC and MDex. In the as-prepared state, the highest modulus is observed in HyA-doped hydrogels, while in the swollen-state, CMC-doped hydrogels have a greater modulus.

Bioactive interpenetrating hybrids of poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate): Effect of polysaccharide types on structural peculiarities and multifunctionality.

Crosslinked poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-glycidyl methacrylate) hybrids prepared in the same experimental condition by adding various polysaccharides of different chemical types; inulin, Na-alginate, starch and κ-Carrageenan were qualitatively compared. The results are presented to extract relevant physicochemical properties for qualitative comparison of structures within the same synthesis batch. Elastic properties and swelling degree of hybrids can be tightly regulated using different types of polysaccharides and by controlling effective cross-linking density.

Is the Prognostic Nutritional Index a Prognostic Marker for the Survival of Patients with Lymph-Node Positive Stage II-III Gastric Cancer Who Receive Adjuvant Chemotherapy?

Purpose: The prognostic nutritional index (PNI), like other systemic inflammatory markers, has been shown to be a prognostic factor in various cancer patients. In this study, we aimed to show whether PNI calculated before adjuvant chemotherapy is a prognostic factor for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with lymph node-positive stage II-III gastric cancer.

Methods: The PNI was calculated using the albumin and lymphocyte count.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the pulmonary involvement status, its related factors, and pulmonary function test (PFT) results in the first month follow-up in patients who were discharged for severe Covid-19 pneumonia, and to assess the efficacy of corticosteroid treatment on these parameters in severe pulmonary involvement patients.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all consecutive patients who applied to our COVID-19 follow-up clinic at the end of the first month of hospital discharge. Functional and radiological differences were compared after 3 months of corticosteroid treatment in severe pulmonary involvement group.

The effect of concomitant proton pump inhibitor use on survival outcomes of Nivolumab-treated renal cell carcinoma patients: a multicenter study.

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the effect of concomitant proton pump inhibitors (PPI) use with nivolumab on survival outcomes in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) in second-line setting.

Methods: The study was designed as a multicenter and retrospective involving patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma receiving second-line nivolumab therapy. One hundred and nine patients with mRCC were divided into two groups based on whether they use PPI concomitantly with nivolumab: concomitant PPI users and non-users.

Treatment efficacy of ribociclib or palbociclib plus letrozole in hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer.

Ribociclib, palbociclib and abemaciclib are currently approved CDK4/6 inhibitors along with aromatase inhibitors as the first-line standard-of-care for patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer. The authors report retrospective real-life data for 600 patients with estrogen receptor- and/or progesterone receptor-positive and HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer who were treated with ribociclib and palbociclib in combination with letrozole. The results demonstrated that the combination of palbociclib or ribociclib with letrozole has similar progression-free survival and overall survival benefit in real life for the patient group with similar clinical features.

Underwater marine object detection, as one of the most fundamental techniques in the community of marine science and engineering, has been shown to exhibit tremendous potential for exploring the oceans in recent years. It has been widely applied in practical applications, such as monitoring of underwater ecosystems, exploration of natural resources, management of commercial fisheries, etc. However, due to complexity of the underwater environment, characteristics of marine objects, and limitations imposed by exploration equipment, detection performance in terms of speed, accuracy, and robustness can be dramatically degraded when conventional approaches are used.
