Patients diagnosed with Crohn's disease are increasingly subjected to repeat colonoscopic and radiological examinations to assess the extent of the disease severity and the effects of treatment. Pillcam Crohn's video capsule, a modified colon capsule, was developed to generate a minimally invasive mouth to rectum video of the gastrointestinal tract. The capsule provides a wide-angle panoramic mucosal view to assess inflammation, ulceration, stenosis, disease extent, and effect of treatment.

Widespread use of antibiotics leads to an imbalance of normal intestinal microflora and to the development of multidrug resistance. The problem can be solved by administration of the antibiotics in combination with the drugs that have an immunotropic effect. We studied the effect of the drug containing technologically processed affinity purified antibodies to IFNγ, CD4 receptor, β2-microglobulin of MHC class I, and β2-domain of MHC II combined with antibiotics on the composition of intestinal microflora of pigs and the total number of microbiome resistance genes.

Analysis of the pharmacological activity of the original drug Prospekta in a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia revealed its nootropic effect: course treatment in the post-ischemic period led to recovery of the neurological status of animals at the peak of neurological deficit. Evaluation of the therapeutic potential of the drug in morphological and functional CNS disorders allowed us to conclude that it is advisable to carry out further studies of its biological activity at the preclinical stage (the results obtained in animals were successfully confirmed in a clinical trial of drug efficacy in the treatment of moderate cognitive disorders in the early recovery period after ischemic stroke). Studies of the nootropic activity in other pathologies of the nervous system are also promising.

Article Synopsis
  • Vacuolar H-ATPases (V-ATPases) are crucial for transporting protons across cell membranes to help acidify organelles, with ATP6V0A1 being a key gene linked to brain development.
  • Variants in ATP6V0A1 are associated with developmental issues and epileptic encephalopathy in humans, showcasing significant lysosomal dysfunction and impaired cellular processes.
  • Research on mice with these variants confirms that ATP6V0A1 plays a vital role in neuronal health and connectivity, as mutations can lead to severe developmental problems and affect neurotransmitter levels.

The therapeutic use of Abs in cancer, autoimmunity, transplantation, and other fields is among the major biopharmaceutical advances of the 20th century. Broader use of Ab-based drugs is constrained because of their high production costs and frequent side effects. One promising approach to overcome these limitations is the use of highly diluted Abs, which are produced by gradual reduction of an Ab concentration to an extremely low level.

Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) and vascular dementia are the most common forms of cognitive disorder associated with cerebrovascular disease and related to increased morbidity and mortality among the older population. Growing evidence suggests the contribution of blood-pressure variability, cardiac arrhythmia, hyperactivation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, endothelial dysfunction, vascular remodeling and stiffness, different angiopathies, neural tissue homeostasis, and systemic metabolic disorders to the pathophysiology of VCI. In this review, we focus on factors contributing to cerebrovascular disease, neurovascular unit alterations, and novel approaches to cognitive improvement in patients with cognitive decline.

Introduction: In order to investigate the efficacy and safety of Afalaza in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) at risk of progression, this multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial was performed. Derived by technological treatment of antibodies to prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOs), Afalaza was previously proved to modulate its molecular targets. The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with the modulating effect of the antibiodies (RA-Abs) on the molecular targets (PSA and eNOS) by way of conformational changes.

Small bowel capsule endoscopy is a minimally-invasive endoscopic investigation that is often used in clinical practice to investigate overt or occult gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding among other clinical indications. International guidance recommends small bowel capsule endoscopy as a first-line investigation to detect abnormalities in the small bowel, when gastroscopy and colonoscopy fail to identify a cause of GI bleeding. It can diagnose with accuracy abnormalities in the small bowel.
