This study aims to investigate the effects of Bushen Huoxue Decoction regulating adipose-derived stem cells(ADSCs)-exosomes(Exos) on the apoptosis of intervertebral disc nucleus pulposus cells(NPCs) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK) signaling pathway. Tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide(TBHP)-induced NPCs were divided into control, model, drug-containing serum, blank Exos, normal serum Exos, and drug-containing serum Exos groups. Cell viability and proliferation were examined by the CCK-8 assay and EdU staining, respectively.

The intervertebral disc (IVD) is the largest avascular structure in the human body. The cartilaginous endplate (CEP) is a layer of translucent cartilage located at the upper and lower edges of the vertebral bodies. On one hand, CEPs endure pressure from within the IVD and the tensile and shear forces of the annulus fibrosus, promoting uniform distribution of compressive loads on the vertebral bodies.

The gut microbiome (GM), often referred to as the second genome of the human body, plays a crucial role in various metabolic processes and mediates the development of numerous diseases. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is an age-related degenerative spinal disease characterized by the loss of disc height, hydration, and integrity, leading to pain and reduced mobility. Although the pathogenesis of IDD is not fully understood, recent studies suggest that dysbiosis of the gut microbiome may accelerate the progression of IDD through multiple mechanisms.

As the largest organelle in eukaryotic cells, the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) plays a crucial role in regulating intracellular protein folding, translation and assembly. Multiple quality control mechanisms in the ER ensure accurate modification of proteins in the ER lumen are accurately modified, thus maintaining calcium homeostasis, oxidative stress, cellular senescence and apoptosis. These mechanisms include ER stress (ERS), ER autophagy (ER-phagy, ERPA) and ER-associated degradation (ERAD).

Humic substances as major components of waste activated sludge are refractory to degrade and have inhibition in traditional anaerobic digestion (AD). This study for the first time investigated the feasibility and mechanism of microbial electrolysis cell assisted anaerobic digestion (MEC-AD) to break the recalcitrance and inhibition of humic substances. The cumulative methane production of AD decreased from 134.

Rationale: Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a rare primary or secondary tumor that usually occurs in young women aged between 10 and 20 years, mostly in the long tubular bone and spine. However, there are no definite standards for its clinical treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a young female patient with distal radius ABC who was successfully treated with tumor resection and autogenous fibular head transplantation.

This paper aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of adipose-derived stem cells-exosomes(ADSCs-exos) toge-ther with aucubin in protecting human-derived nucleus pulposus cells(NPCs) from inflammatory injury, senescence, and apoptosis. The tert-butyl hydroperoxide(TBHP)-induced NPCs were assigned into normal, model, aucubin, ADSCs-exos, and aucubin+ADSCs-exos groups. The cell viability was examined by cell counting kit-8(CCK-8), cell proliferation by EdU staining, cell senescence by senescence-associated-β-galactosidase(SA-β-Gal), and cell cycle and apoptosis by flow cytometry.

Article Synopsis
  • Gate-all-around (GAA) structures, crucial for advanced logic devices and 3D-DRAM, require selective etching of SiGe during manufacturing.
  • This study examines dry etching in a 15-cycle SiGe/Si multilayer, using both simulations and experiments to analyze etching depth and nanosheet damage effects.
  • The research also explores how factors like pressure and power influence etching outcomes, offering valuable insights for the development of SiGe etching techniques in GAA structures.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Lower back pain (LBP) is a common and frequent clinical condition, and intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is recognized as the leading cause of LBP, typically manifested by increased nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) senescence and death. In recent years, the treatment of IDD with stem cell injections has had great potential compared to surgical treatment. Combining the two may achieve better results, as BuShenHuoXueFang (BSHXF) is an herbal formula that improves the survival rate of transplanted stem cells and enhances their efficacy.

The non-lichenized ascomycete Bulgaria inquinans (Fries), growing in the Changbai Mountain of China, has been used as medicinal diet for many years. In a previous study, we have reported that a heteropolysaccharide BIWS-4b from the fruit bodies of B. inquinans (Fries) exhibited markedly antimalarial and immunostimulating activities.

Objective: To understand the current situations of saturnism and blood lead levels of children resided in village and circumjacent areas, and to know its relations with sex, age and other factors on children' s health as to providing some evidences for prevention and control.

Methods: An epidemiological survey was conducted for finding out the pollution sources and for a better understanding of the surrounding environment. All 221 children under 14 years old, from the lead pollution villages and surrounding establishments were enrolled, and their blood lead levels were detected by graphite atomizer absorption spectrophotometer method.
