Article Synopsis
  • High myopia (HM) is a serious eye condition characterized by excessive eyeball length, leading to tissue degeneration and increased risk for other eye diseases like glaucoma and cataracts.
  • Researchers studied 122 patients' aqueous humor samples during cataract surgery to investigate the relationship between complement Factors H (CFH) and D (CFD) and maculopathy in degenerative myopia.
  • The findings revealed that CFH levels were significantly higher in patients with high myopia and correlated negatively with choroid thickness, indicating that CFH might play a crucial role in the pathology of myopia, whereas CFD levels showed no correlation with maculopathy.

The aim of this study was to identify a relation between the clinical characteristics and differences in lipid peroxidation in the subretinal fluid (SRF) of rhegmatogenous retinal detached patients by malondialdehyde (MDA) quantification. We collected 65 SRF samples from consecutive patients during scleral buckling surgery in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) eyes. In addition to a complete ophthalmic evaluation, we studied the refractive status, evolution time, and the number of detached retinal quadrants to establish the extension of RRD.
