Article Synopsis
  • There are currently no specific biomarkers to identify patients with advanced ovarian carcinoma who are responsive to bevacizumab (BEV), a key treatment option.
  • A study analyzed TP53 mutations and p53 expression in advanced ovarian cancer patients undergoing BEV treatment, finding that unclassified missense TP53 mutations significantly improved overall survival.
  • The results suggest that unclassified TP53 mutations could serve as a favorable prognostic indicator in these patients, indicating the need for further research to explore their potential role in predicting treatment outcomes.

Pulmonary sequestration is an uncommon congenital malformation of the lung, generally diagnosed in childhood or adolescence, corresponding to dysplastic lung tissue not communicating with the rest of the vascular or bronchial lung system but receiving an arterial blood supply from systemic arteries. Currently, surgical resection is usually indicated to prevent or treat related symptoms or complications, although controversy exists regarding its use in asymptomatic patients and adults. We present the case of a 32-year-old pregnant woman with acute chest pain and vomiting diagnosed with intralobar sequestration at 32+2 weeks of gestation and treated with pulmonary lobectomy after giving birth by cesarean section at 33+0 weeks of gestation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the link between sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and pregnancy outcomes in obese women during uncomplicated singleton pregnancies.
  • 112 participants were analyzed, revealing that those with higher oxygen desaturation had newborns with increased rates of congenital abnormalities and respiratory issues.
  • Additionally, lower oxygen saturation levels in the first trimester were identified as a predictor of fetal growth restriction, regardless of other maternal factors.

Histopathologic assessment of high-risk endometrial cancer (EC) suffers from intersubject variability and poor reproducibility. The pragmatic classification in four molecular subgroups helps to overcome these limits, showing a significant prognostic value. The "no specific molecular profile" (NSMP) is the most heterogeneous EC subgroup, requiring further characterization to better guide its clinical management.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in pregnant women hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2, focusing on its potential impact on pregnancy and thrombotic complications.
  • Sixteen out of 151 women were found to have positive aPL, with a higher incidence of obstetric complications such as HELLP syndrome and preeclampsia associated with aPL positivity.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that while aPL were present, their frequency in pregnant women with COVID-19 remained similar to that in the general obstetric population.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how maternal cardiovascular function adapts during uncomplicated twin pregnancies compared to singleton pregnancies, using transthoracic echocardiography at different gestational stages.
  • It highlights that right ventricular (RV) function parameters remained mostly stable in twin pregnancies, with some variations in tissue Doppler imaging findings, similar to singleton pregnancies.
  • Left atrial (LA) dimensions increased throughout pregnancy for both twins and singletons, and LA strains showed little variation, except for a minor difference early in the first trimester for twins.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how maternal left ventricular (LV) function changes during uncomplicated twin pregnancies compared to singleton pregnancies.
  • It involves 30 women with twin pregnancies and 30 with singleton pregnancies, using echocardiography at three different points during gestation to assess various LV characteristics.
  • Results indicate that while some LV dimensions and mass increased during twin pregnancies, LV function remained stable, with no significant differences between twins and singletons, although there were signs of LV impairment in both groups by the second half of the pregnancies.

Purpose: In the absence of clear evidence from randomized trials, the intensity of follow-up regimens after surgical treatment of endometrial cancer is highly variable in clinical practice. To reduce this uncertainty, we conducted a randomized trial to test whether an intensive (INT) versus a minimalist (MIN) follow-up regimen improves overall survival (OS) in patients undergoing operation for endometrial cancer.

Methods: The TOTEM study was a large, pragmatic randomized trial, conducted in 42 hospitals (in Italy and France) including patients surgically treated for endometrial cancer, in complete clinical remission, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage I-IV.

Background: Radical surgical resection of the primary tumor with mono/bilateral inguinofemoral lymph node dissection is the standard treatment for invasive vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) and is frequently related to severe morbidity. Tailoring surgical treatment is of paramount importance, and a comprehensive preoperative evaluation is mandatory. Vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) is considered a regulator of lymphangiogenesis involved in tumor spread lymphatic vessels.

For high-risk endometrial cancer (EC) patients, adjuvant chemotherapy is recommended to improve outcome. Yet, predictive biomarkers for response to platinum-based chemotherapy (Pt-aCT) are currently lacking. We tested expression of L1 cell-adhesion molecule (L1CAM), a well-recognised marker of poor prognosis in EC, in tumour samples from high-risk EC patients, to explore its role as a predictive marker of Pt-aCT response.

The onset of chemo-resistant recurrence represents the principal cause of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) death. HGSOC masses are characterized by a hypoxic microenvironment, which contributes to the development of this chemo-resistant phenotype. Hypoxia regulated-miRNAs (HRMs) represent a molecular response of cancer cells to hypoxia and are involved in tumor progression.

There is a strong but complex relationship between fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia. According to the International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy the coexistence of gestational hypertension and fetal growth restriction identifies preeclampsia with no need for other signs of maternal organ impairment. While early-onset fetal growth restriction and preeclampsia are often strictly associated, such association becomes looser in the late preterm and term periods.
