Doubly N-heterocyclic-carbene-stabilized diborenes undergo facile reactions with CO, initially providing dibora-β-lactones. These lactones convert over time to their 2,4-diboraoxetan-3-one isomers through a presumed dissociative pathway and hypovalent boron species borylene carbonyls (LHB═C═O) and base-stabilized oxoboranes (LHB═O). Repeating these reactions with doubly cyclic(alkyl)(amino)carbene-stabilized diborenes allowed the isolation of a borylene carbonyl intermediate, whereas a base-stabilized oxoborane could be inferred by the isolation of a boroxine from the reaction mixture.

The desymmetrization of ten prochiral diols by phosphoryl transfer with a titanium-BINOLate complex is discussed. The phosphorylation of nine 1,3-propane diols is achieved in yields of 50-98%. Enantiomeric ratios as high as 92:8 are achieved with diols containing a quaternary C-2 center incorporating a protected amine.

In this combined experimental and theoretical study, a computational protocol is reported to predict the excited states in D-π-A compounds containing the B(Xyl) (Xyl = 2,6-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl) acceptor group for the design of new thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters. To this end, the effect of different donor and π-bridge moieties on the energy gaps between local and charge-transfer singlet and triplet states is examined. Using a new divergent approach, conjugated triarylborane dendrimers were synthesized up to the 2 generation. The synthetic strategy consists of three steps: 1) functionalization, via iridium catalyzed C-H borylation; 2) activation, via fluorination of the generated boronate ester with K[HF ] or [N(nBu )][HF ]; and 3) expansion, via reaction of the trifluoroborate salts with aryl Grignard reagents. The concept was also shown to be viable for a convergent approach.

Background: Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is commonly employed in the intensive care unit (ICU), though there are no guidelines around the transition between CRRT and intermittent hemodialysis (iHD). Accelerated venovenous hemofiltration (AVVH) is a modality utilizing higher hemofiltration rates (4-5 L/h) with shorter session durations (8-10 h) to "accelerate" the clearance and volume removal that normally is spread out over a 24-h period in CRRT. We examined AVVH as a transition therapy between CRRT and iHD, with the aim of decreasing time on CRRT and providing a more graduated transition for hemodynamically unstable patients requiring RRT.

A triol-functionalized 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) derivative has been synthesized and used for the tris-alkoxylation of polyoxometalate (POM) precursors. The resultant POM-bpy conjugates of the Wells-Dawson- and Anderson-type feature a C-C bond as a linkage between the POM and bpy fragments. This structural motif is expected to increase the hydrolytic stability of the compounds.
