Background: Contrary to the common belief, the most commonly used laboratory C57BL/6J mouse inbred strain presents a distinctive genetic and phenotypic variability, and for several traits, the genotype-phenotype link remains still unknown. Recently, we characterized the most important stroke survival factor such as brain collateral plasticity in 2 brain ischemia C57BL/6J mouse models (bilateral common carotid artery stenosis and middle cerebral artery occlusion) and observed a Mendelian-like fashion of inheritance of the posterior communicating artery (PcomA) patency. Interestingly, a copy number variant (CNV) spanning locus was reported to segregate in an analogous Mendelian-like pattern in the C57BL/6J colonies of the Jackson Laboratory.

Background: Excessive supraventricular ectopic activity (ESVEA) is regarded as a risk marker for later atrial fibrillation (AF) detection.

Methods And Results: The investigator-initiated, prospective, open, multicenter MonDAFIS (Impact of Standardized Monitoring for Detection of Atrial Fibrillation in Ischemic Stroke) study randomized 3465 patients with acute ischemic stroke without known AF 1:1 to usual diagnostic procedures for AF detection or additive Holter monitoring in hospital for up to 7 days, analyzed in a core laboratory. Secondary study objectives include the comparison of recurrent stroke, myocardial infarction, major bleeding, and all-cause death within 24 months in patients with ESVEA (defined as ectopic supraventricular beats ≥480/day or atrial runs of 10-29 seconds or both) versus patients with newly diagnosed AF versus patients without ESVEA or AF (non-ESVEA/AF), randomized to the intervention group.

Spermidine/spermine acetyltransferases (SSATs) and other types of polyamine acetyltransferases (PAATs) acetylate diamines and/or polyamines. These enzymes are evolutionarily related and belong to the Gcn5-related acetyltransferase (GNAT) superfamily, yet we lack a fundamental understanding of their substrate specificity and/or promiscuity toward different compounds. Many of these enzymes are known or are predicted to acetylate polyamines, but in the cell there are other types of compounds that contain moieties derived from polyamines that may be the native substrates for these enzymes.

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of early postpartum supplementation of Rally®, a sorbitol-containing feed additive (RAL), on lactation performance and automatic milking system (AMS) metrics on a commercial dairy farm. Multiparous (MT) and primiparous (PP) Holstein cows were randomly assigned to either RAL supplementation (570 g/d RAL; RAL-MT, n = 75, RAL-PP, n = 34) or control (CTL-MT, n = 72; CTL-PP, n = 38). Background: Oral anticoagulation (OAC) is key in stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) but there is uncertainty regarding the optimal timing of OAC (re)initiation after stroke, as recent large randomised controlled trials have methodological weaknesses and excluded stroke patients on therapeutic anticoagulation at stroke onset as well as patients started on a vitamin K antagonist after stroke. The '1-3-6-12 days rule', based on expert consensus and referring to stroke severity, was used in clinical practice to initiate OAC after acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) since publication in 2013.
