An 84-year-old man with a history of progressive interstitial pneumonia presented to our department with lung cancer (cT2aN0M0-IB) in right S6. Moreover, computed tomography revealed progressive diffuse pulmonary ossification in the bilateral lower pulmonary lobes. S6 segmentectomy was performed via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery.

This sub-population consists of 2-cell-gene labeled cells (2CLCs) generated by the transient activation of the 2-cell specific genes initiated by the master regulator, Dux. However, the mechanism regulating the transient expression remains largely unclear.

Methods: The database of the Metastatic Lung Tumor Study Group of Japan for 1984 to 2016 was used to analyze the outcomes of patients with gynecologic malignancies who underwent pulmonary metastasectomy.
Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been shown to prolong the survival of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and have allowed complete resection for advanced lung cancer. However, immune-related adverse events (irAEs) have been recognized as concerning side effects of ICIs.
Case Presentation: A 62-year-old man visited our hospital because of fever, dyspnea, and anorexia.

Here, we report synergistic nanostructured surfaces combining bactericidal and bacteria-releasing properties. A polystyrene--poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS--PMMA) diblock copolymer is used to fabricate vertically oriented cylindrical PS structures ("PS nanopillars") on silicon substrates. The results demonstrate that the PS nanopillars (with a height of about 10 nm, size of about 50 nm, and spacing of about 70 nm) exhibit highly effective bactericidal and bacteria-releasing properties ("dual properties") against for at least 36 h of immersion in an solution.

The history of hitherto existing pharmacology in Japan presented here is authored in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology. After the publication of the new book of anatomy "Anatomische Tabellen" translated into Japanese in 1774, the foundation of understanding the medical science was gradually formed in Japan under seclusion policy, and, since the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the modernization of Japanese medicine was rapidly fostered on the basis of German medicine. Thus, the Japanese government officially adopted German medicine, and the philosophy and practice of German medical schools were incorporated.

Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a nodule in the right lower lobe. Fluorodeoxyglucose-positronemission tomography (FDG-PET) showed abnormal accumulation in the nodule.

Recent studies of cultured mouse pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) have clarified the presence of intermediate pluripotent stages between the naïve pluripotent state represented by embryonic stem cells (ESCs-equivalent to the pre-implantation epiblast) and the primed pluripotent state represented by epiblast stem cells (EpiSCs-equivalent to the late post-implantation gastrula epiblast). In this review, we discuss these recent findings in light of our knowledge on peri-implantation mouse development and consider the implications of these new PSCs to understand their temporal sequence and the feasibility of using them as model system for pluripotency.

In this study, we analyzed prognostic implications of presence or absence of GGO, size of the solid component, and predominant histology to identify the true prognostic determinant for early-stage NSCLC.
Methods: We retrospectively examined 384 patients with clinical stage I NSCLC (solid: 242, part solid: 142) who underwent complete resection between 2009 and 2013.
A 77-year-old woman was found to have multiple granular shadows in the bilateral lungs and a right mammary mass on chest computed tomography (CT) scan for preoperative check of colorectal cancer. The right mammary mass was diagnosed as breast cancer as a result of vacuum-assisted breast biopsy. Fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography( FDG-PET) showed no abnormal uptake in the lung fields.

Carinal resection and reconstruction was performed because of the tumor relapse after the treatment by argon plasma coagulator. Carinal resection was performed under the median sternotomy with reconstruction by the montage method.

At surgery, partial resection of the pericardium was also conducted because the pericardial inversion was suspected. The histopathological diagnosis was dedifferentiated liposarcoma.

In that situation, DNA replicational errors occur and accumulate during DNA replication. As a result, this mechanism frequently affects the coding regions of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and causes carcinogenesis.

Such hybrid polymer-particle systems are also rich in fundamental soft matter physics. Among several factors contributing to mechanical reinforcement, a polymer-mediated NP network is considered to be the most important in polymer nanocomposites (PNCs).

One of such events is the mitochondria clearance that occurs cell-autonomously via autophagy-dependent mechanisms. Methods: Clinicopathological data from 431 consecutive patients who underwent lobectomy for NSCLC between 2010 and 2016 were collected. Patients were classified into groups according to the type of anesthesia: propofol-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) or inhalation anesthesia (INHA).
Background: Pulmonary metastasectomy (PM) for breast cancer-derived pulmonary metastasis is controversial. This study aimed to assess the prognostic factors and implication of PM for metastatic breast cancer using a multi-institutional database.
Methods: Clinical data of 253 females with pulmonary metastasis of breast cancer who underwent PM between 1982 and 2017 were analyzed retrospectively.
A 35-year-old man underwent adjuvant chemoradiation therapy to the surgical margin of the thymoma. Five years after the therapy, an area of the right upper lung lobe, which was included in the irradiation field, developed destroyed lung, resulting in Aspergillus empyema with bronchopleural fistula. To control the infection, an open window thoracostomy was performed.

In this study, we produced allo-diploid hybrids by cross-fertilization between female goldfish (Carassius auratus) and male golden venus chub (Hemigrammocypris rasborella). Inviability of these hybrids was due to breakage of the enveloping layer during epiboly or due to malformation with serious cardiac oedema around the hatching stage.

A 70-year-old woman was brought to our hospital by ambulance because of severe groin pain on the right side. Computed tomography scan revealed a tumor in the ascending colon, intraperitoneal abscess spread to the subcutaneous tissues, and a large amount of pneumoderma. She was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis caused by penetration of ascending colon cancer and underwent lavage and drainage, right hemicolectomy, end ileostomy, and debridement of necrotic tissues on emergency.
