Polyphenols in plants are important for defense responses against microorganisms, insect herbivory, and control of feeding. Owing to their antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory activities, their importance in human nutrition has been acknowledged. However, metabolism of polyphenols derived from mulberry leaves in silkworms (Bombyx mori) remains unclear.

To explore appropriate postoperative management after colorectal ESD, we reviewed short-term outcomes after ESD in non-selected consecutive patients.
Methods: Patients who underwent colorectal ESD from April 2013 to September 2020 in one institution were reviewed.
Background/aim: We investigated the effects of chloroquine, an autophagy inhibitor, on doxorubicin-induced apoptosis in A549 cells.
Materials And Methods: A549 cells were treated with doxorubicin, chloroquine, or both. Then, cytotoxicity was measured.
Background: Large type 3 and type 4 gastric cancers have extremely poor prognoses. To address this, neoadjuvant chemotherapy may be a promising approach. The phase III JCOG0501 study, conducted to confirm the superiority of neoadjuvant S-1 plus cisplatin followed by D2 gastrectomy over upfront surgery, showed no survival benefit for neoadjuvant S-1 plus cisplatin.

Conventional ferroelectric liquid crystals have been found in phases with low symmetry that permit the presence of spontaneous polarization. Recently, the discovery of ferroelectricity with high symmetry in the nematic phase has attracted considerable attention.

Considering the rapid growth of available quantum resources that are not fully fault tolerant, it is crucial to develop practical hardware-friendly quantum error mitigation (QEM) techniques to suppress unwanted errors. Here, we propose a novel generalized quantum subspace expansion method which can handle stochastic, coherent, and algorithmic errors in quantum computers.

However, clinical evidence indicates that PARP inhibitors are also effective for treating HRD-negative ovarian cancer. The PARP inhibitor olaparib became available in Japan as a maintenance therapy for platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer regardless of homologous recombination status in April 2018.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA myeloid immune checkpoint, leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor (LILR) B4 (B4, also known as ILT3/CD85k in humans and gp49B in mice) is expressed on dendritic cells (DCs). However, a mode of regulation of DCs by B4/gp49B is not identified yet in relation to the ligand(s) as well as to the counteracting, activation-type receptor. Our recent identification of the physiological/pathological ligand for B4/gp49B as the fibronectin (FN) N-terminal 30-kDa domain poses the question of the relationship between B4/gp49B and a classical FN receptor/cellular activator, integrin, on DCs.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLILRB4 (B4, also known as ILT3/CD85k) is an immune checkpoint of myeloid lineage cells, albeit its mode of function remains obscure. Our recent identification of a common ligand for both human B4 and its murine ortholog gp49B as the fibronectin (FN) N-terminal 30 kDa domain poses the question of how B4/gp49B regulate cellular activity upon recognition of FN in the plasma and/or the extracellular matrix. Since FN in the extracellular matrix is tethered by FN-binding integrins, we hypothesized that B4/gp49B would tether FN in cooperation with integrins on the cell surface, thus they should be in close vicinity to integrins spatially.

However, there are no real-world, nationwide database studies on limited resections that consider radiological invasiveness.

As the symptoms of PIV-3 infection are similar to those of COVID-19 infection, accurate diagnosis of PIV-3 and other respiratory viruses is important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aims: We experienced an outbreak of upper respiratory symptoms at a nursery school in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, from 29/5/2021 to 13/6/2021 and aimed to determine the causative organism(s).
A high-accuracy analytical method is broadly required to obtain reliable research results. Thus, prompt γ-ray analysis (PGA), one of the most accurate non-destructive analytical methods, has been employed in various fields. However, the measurement accuracy of PGA is also known to degrade in hydrogenous samples.

We have previously demonstrated that, during kidney fibrosis, kidney fibroblasts including Epo-producing cells transdifferentiate into myofibroblasts and lose their Epo-producing ability. However, it remains unclear whether Epo-producing cells survive and transform into myofibroblasts during fibrosis because previous studies did not specifically label Epo-producing cells in pathophysiological conditions.

Therefore, we retrospectively analysed clinical outcomes in 39 transplant-ineligible patients with untreated aggressive ATL at Kumamoto University Hospital between 2010 and 2021. The probability of four-year overall survival was 46.

Methods: The oncogenic role of HIF-1α in ESCC was investigated using in vitro and in vivo assays. The clinicopathological significance of HIF-1α, β-catenin and TCF4/TCF7L2 in ESCC were evaluated using quantitative real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry.
Regarding the prognosis of cases with advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a recent clinical study showed that the immune checkpoint inhibitors atezolizumab plus bevacizumab have superior efficacy to sorafenib. However, only a few reports have focused on their effects on extrahepatic metastases. We herein report a case of HCC in a 59-year-old man with intrahepatic lesions treated successfully by hepatic arterial chemoembolization, radiotherapy, and sorafenib; the extrahepatic lesion in the adrenal gland was treated by atezolizumab plus bevacizumab.

F127 Pluronic triblock copolymers, with the structure (EO)(PO)(EO) (EO: ethylene oxide and PO propylene oxide respectively), functionalized by dimethacrylate (F127-DMA) at a concentration of 25% was used in this study. After careful characterization by complementary techniques: transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction of nanosheets derived from the peeling of layered materials (montmorillonite, organoclays and hexaniobate), the nanosheets were seen to be suitably dispersed in the hydrogels.

The accuracy of predictions by a PP-LFER depends on the composition of the respective calibration data set. In this study, we report that the leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor subfamily B member 4 (LILRB4, murine ortholog gp49B) orchestrates the polarization of MDSCs to exhibit pro-tumor phenotypes. We found that gp49B deficiency inhibited tumor metastases of cancer cells, and reduced tumor-infiltration of monocytic MDSCs (M-MDSCs) in tumor-bearing mice.
