Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is widely used in otorhinolaryngology for various purposes. A 20-year-old male patient was admitted following a traumatic nasal wound which occurred several hours prior. He had a nasal glass cut from the radix to the supratip area which was primarily closed by non-absorbable suture.

Effect of Nasal Soft-Tissue Envelope Thickness on Postoperative Healing Process Following Rhinoplasty.

Objective: Understanding the postoperative dynamics of the nasal soft-tissue envelope (NSTE) is necessary to obtain the desired cosmetic results after rhinoplasty. Materials And Methods: The study was carried out at the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department with 107 patients (46 male, 61 female) between the ages of 20 and 77 with a mean of 42.8 years who had idiopathic tinnitus.

Effect of Nasal Skin Type on Skin Problems following Rhinoplasty.

Skin problems following rhinoplasty may cause dissatisfaction concerning the esthetic expectations of the patients. This study was conducted to determine whether nasal skin type has an effect on skin problems after rhinoplasty. Thirty-five patients undergoing rhinoplasty in our tertiary referral center between May 2018 and August 2019 were included in the study.

Effect of Turbinate Intervention on Nasal Functions in Septorhinoplasty Surgery.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of inferior turbinate reduction on nasal function.

Materials And Methods: A total of 32 patients who underwent septorhinoplasty (SRP) operation were included in the study and assigned into 2 groups as group I who received inferior turbinate reduction during SRP operation consisted of 17 patients and the group II who consisted of 15 patients without inferior turbinate reduction. For 2 groups before and after surgery, visual analogue score and findings of the acoustic rhinometry were recorded both before and after decongestion of the nasal mucosa.

A Rhizopus oryzae strain isolated from resected bone and soft tissue specimens from a sinonasal and palatal mucormycosis case. Report of a case and in vitro experiments of yeastlike cell development.

We report a histologically and mycologically proven sinonasal mucormycosis case causing palatal necrosis in a nondiabetic patient with renal failure. Mycological examination of Giemsa stained imprinted tissue preparations revealed abundant yeast-like cells besides the typical mucoraceous hyphae. The fungus was isolated from surgical specimens and identified as Rhizopus oryzae by phenotypic and genotypic tests.

[Aneurysmal bone cyst of the mandible: a case report].

Aneurysmal bone cyst is a benign lesion that is more commonly seen in long bones and the vertebra. Its occurrence in the craniofacial region is rare. A nine-year-old boy presented with a well-demarcated, painless, fixed mass, 3 x 3 cm in size, in the left preauricular region, with no fluctuation or crepitation.

A study of prognostic factors in sudden hearing loss.

We investigated the prognostic significance of the presence or absence of vertigo and tinnitus, the timing of the initiation of treatment, the type and severity of hearing loss, and age in 72 patients who had experienced sudden hearing loss. We found that the factors associated with a positive prognosis were the absence of vertigo, the presence of tinnitus, initiation of treatment within 7 days, a greater degree of hearing loss in the low frequencies, and a hearing loss of less than 45 dB. Age had no effect on prognosis.

Lipid peroxidation end product and the endogenous antioxidant components-CuZn superoxide dismutase (CuZn SOD) glutathione peroxidase (GSH Px), glutathione reductase (GSSG Rd) and glutathione (GSH)-were analysed by spectrophotometric and kinetic methods. Laryngeal cancer tissue exhibited higher lipid peroxidation than cancer free adjacent tissue.

Spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea associated with empty sella: a transnasal-transsphenoidal repair of the fistula.

Spontaneous cerebrospinal rhinorrhea is a rare clinical condition. More commonly it develops due to cerebral tumors or hydrocephalus; it is seldom seen in association with empty sella syndrome. A sixty-three-year-old woman who presented with left nasal discharge was hospitalized on the suspicion of CSF rhinorrhea.

[Orbital decompression by endoscopic transnasal and transantral approach in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy].

Objectives: We evaluated the results of orbital decompression in patients with Graves' disease.

Patients And Methods: Orbital decompression was performed by endoscopic transnasal medial wall approach and transantral inferior wall approach in 18 eyes of 12 patients (8 males, 4 females; mean age 41 years; range 24 to 65 years). The degree of exophthalmos was evaluated with the use of the Hertel exophthalmometer preoperatively, and postoperatively in the 24th hour, first and third months.

[Hyperbaric oxygen treatment in sudden hearing loss after unsuccessful medical treatment].

Objectives: We evaluated the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment in patients with sudden hearing loss unresponsive to medical treatment.

Patients And Methods: Fifty-one patients (37 males, 14 females; mean age 37 years; range 9 to 63 years) with sudden hearing loss were treated with HBO following unsuccessful medical treatment. Time elapsed from the occurrence of sudden hearing loss ranged between 15 to 45 days.

Syphilis is an unusual diagnosis in an ENT practice. We evaluated a 55-year-old man who had generalized plaques on his face, neck, and upper extremities. Analysis of skin biopsy and serology specimens revealed that the patient had secondary syphilis.
