Purpose: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) has played an important role in recovery management for radical cystectomy with ileal urinary diversion (RC-IUD). This study is to evaluate ERAS compared with the conventional recovery after surgery (CRAS) for RC-IUD.

Methods: From October 2014 and July 2016, bladder cancer patients scheduled for curative treatment from 25 centers of Chinese Bladder Cancer Consortium were randomly assigned to either ERAS or CRAS group.

Background: Primary gastric small cell carcinomas (GSCCs) are increasingly identified by endoscopy, and account for 15-20% of all gastric neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). GSCCs have the worst prognosis with the highest rate of metastases.

Purpose: To provide useful information for clinicians and researchers to better manage patients with GSCC, we studied the clinical features of GSCC and explored the corresponding therapies and prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer across various centers in China between 2007 and 2012, analyzing a total of 14,260 cases.
  • Results showed that the majority of patients were older males, with urothelial carcinoma being the most prevalent histological type, and non-muscle invasive bladder cancer representing only a small fraction.
  • Treatment approaches varied, with transurethral resection being common for non-muscle invasive cases, while radical cystectomy was primarily used for muscle invasive bladder cancer, highlighting some similarities and differences compared to international practices.

Objective: To study the relationship between TLR4 and NF-κB p65 protein expressions in tumor tissues after radiotherapy and clinical radiosensitivity of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Methods: A total of 93 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma first treated in our hospital by radiotherapy and surgeries from November 2010 to December 2013 were selected. They were then divided into a severe reaction group, a moderate reaction group and a mild reaction group according to the postoperative pathological examination results of tumor tissues.

Objective: 5-α Reductase inhibitor can reduce the volume of benign prostatic hyperplasia by lowering benign prostatic hyperplasia level and consequently inducing epithelial cells apoptosis. The present study investigated whether autophagy and apoptosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia epithelial cells are influenced by low benign prostatic hyperplasia levels.

Methods: PWR-1E prostate epithelial cells transfected with GFP-LC3 plasmid were subjected to androgen deprivation conditions.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the status of HER2 protein expression in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and to determine its prognostic significance. A total of 42 paraffin-embedded tumor tissues and 42 additional corresponding adjacent normal tissues from RCC patients were randomly collected and studied using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Protein samples of 6 fresh specimens from tumor and adjacent normal tissues obtained during surgery were extracted and tested using western blotting to confirm the IHC results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how reduced major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) expression in bladder tumors affects the effectiveness of a dendritic cell vaccine in a rat model of bladder cancer.
  • The research utilized various methods to assess immune responses, including measuring interferon-gamma levels and the cytotoxic activity of T lymphocytes, while also evaluating MHC-I expression on tumor cells.
  • Results indicated that the dendritic cell vaccine significantly improved tumor control and immune responses but was linked to lower MHC-I expression in tumors, which may lead to less effective long-term treatment outcomes.
