Arthritis is an unusual manifestation of paraneoplastic syndrome, appearing in a variety of cancers, including pulmonary and colorectal. It can often pose a diagnostic challenge to physicians, since it may be difficult to distinguish from more commonly encountered rheumatic illnesses. Moreover, synchronous cancers are rare and unexpected in patients with symmetrical polyarthritis.

Although traditional management for esophageal and esogastric cancer has been improved, survival at 5 years is still low, and immunotherapy could be a way to improve it. In addition to the predictive value of the response to immunotherapy, PD-L1 also has a known prognostic value. We aimed to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of PD-L1, CD8+ T-cell, and CD4/CD25+ T-cell (Tregs) infiltration and their relationship in esophageal and gastroesophageal junction carcinoma.

Eosinophilic angiocentric fibrosis (EAF) is an infrequent and slowly progressive disease, represented by fibroinflammatory lesions of unknown origin, which mainly involves the sinonasal structures and upper respiratory tract. Occasionally, it can affect the orbit and ocular adnexa causing symptoms such as proptosis, globe displacement and periorbital edema. In very rare cases, ocular manifestation as an orbital inflammatory pseudotumor can be the primary localization of the disease.

The biodegradation of hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) is known to be accompanied by isotope fractionation of carbon (C/C), but no systematic studies were performed on abiotic degradation of HCH isomers by iron (II) minerals. In this study, we explored the carbon isotope fractionation of α-HCH during dechlorination by FeS nanoparticles at different pH values. The results of three different experiments showed that the apparent rate constants during dehalogenation of α-HCH by FeS increased with pH.

Coronaviruses are a major pathogen for adults, causing up to one-third of community-acquired respiratory tract infections in adults during epidemics. Although the pandemic outbreak of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) targets preferentially patient's lungs, recent data have documented that COVID-19 causes myocarditis, acute myocardial infarction, exacerbation of heart failure and acute kidney injury. Studies show that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), similar to its predecessor SARS-CoV, engages angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as the entry receptor.

Perovskite LaCoO 3 materials have various applications, from selective permeable membranes and gas sensing devices to water splitting applications. However, the intrinsic electrical resistivity of the perovskite limits the applicative potential. To overcome that, Ag powder was used with LaCoO 3 to obtain porous composite electrodes with enhanced conductivities.

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma is a liposarcoma that contains a well-differentiated liposarcoma component juxtaposed to areas of high-grade non-lipogenic sarcoma and was believed to occur from well-differentiated liposarcoma after several years. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma most commonly occurs in the retroperitoneum, while an intraperitoneal location is extremely rare, only seven cases have been reported in literature. Many pathologists recognize that a large number of intra-abdominal poorly differentiated sarcomas are dedifferentiated liposarcomas.

The cellular immunoprofile of cardiac dysfunctions and lesions of ischemic etiology are insufficiently studied to date, especially regarding the contribution of non-cardiomyocytic structures. Aiming to explore this immunoprofile, we used immunohistochemistry applied on embryonic, fetal and adult normal or ischemic myocardium. We observed a decrease of smooth muscle alpha-actin expression in fetal vs.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common primary mesenchymal neoplasias of the gastrointestinal tract, typically expressing c-kit (CD117) and CD34. Recently, it was reported that nestin and caveolin-1 are also expressed in some human sarcomas, GISTs included. We performed a retrospective study on formalin fixed, paraffin embedded samples from 81 cases of confirmed GISTs, aiming to characterize their immunohistochemical profile, including nestin and caveolin-1 expressions.
