Mitochondrial phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PCK2), a mitochondrial isoenzyme, supports the growth of cancer cells under glucose deficiency conditions in vitro. This study investigated the role and potential mechanism of PCK2 in the occurrence and development of Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), and other databases distinguish the expression of PCK2 and verified by qRT-PCR and Western blotting.

Background: Upregulation of Stathmin 1 (STMN1), a cytoplasmic phosphoprotein that controls the dynamics of cellular microtubules, is linked to malignant behavior and poor prognosis in a range of malignancies. However, little research has been done on STMN1's potential role in HCC as a single factor in DNA methylation, mA, or immunological modulation.

Results: STMN1 is overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma, where it is related to clinicopathological parameters and affects the prognosis of HCC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to investigate the presence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in the villi cells of pregnant women during their first trimester who tested positive for HBsAg.
  • - Researchers used various methods like immunohistochemical staining and PCR to detect HBV infection markers, and they observed positive findings in 32% of the villi samples examined.
  • - The results indicated that HBV can infect different types of cells within the villi, but the virus is unlikely to spread through desmosomes between cells.
