Article Synopsis
  • Fish play a crucial role in river ecosystems, but traditional research methods can harm these environments; a new approach using environmental DNA (eDNA) offers a noninvasive alternative.
  • The study compared eDNA analysis, PCR, and electrofishing in three subtropical rivers in southern China to assess fish community composition and diversity, finding significant differences among eight sampling zones.
  • Results revealed that eDNA metabarcoding is as effective as traditional methods for identifying fish species and their abundance, providing a valuable tool for monitoring aquatic ecosystems without causing ecological damage.

Adversity stress is the main environmental factor limiting plant growth and development, including salt and other stress factors. This study delves into the adaptability and salt tolerance mechanisms of , a species with potential for cultivation in salinized areas. We subjected the plants to various salt concentrations to observe their growth responses and to assess key physiological and biochemical indicators.

MicroRNA (miRNA) and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) are both regulators of cancer progression. This study sought to discuss the functional mechanism of miR-96-5p/lncRNA TRIM52 antisense RNA 1 (head-to-head; TRIM52-AS1) in cervical cancer (CC) cell resistance to cisplatin (DDP). DDP-resistant CC cell line was established using increasing concentrations of DDP, followed by transfection with miR-96-5p inhibitor, or si-TRIM52-AS1, or insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) overexpression vector.

Background: KRAS inhibitors have shown promising efficacy in early clinical trials, but drug resistance compromises their long-term benefits. Therefore, it is critical to understand the mechanisms of drug resistance and to design appropriate combinatory treatments to improve efficacy.

Methods: To understand the comprehensive mechanisms of drug resistance, we treated lung cancer cells with KRAS inhibitors for different periods and performed transcriptional profiling and signaling analysis to identify critical factors and pathways that drive drug tolerance and resistance.

The vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) have progressively become a severe medical problem. Although clinics have started to reduce vancomycin prescription, vancomycin resistance has not been contained. We found that the transfer of vancomycin resistance in increased more than 30-fold upon treatment by streptomycin.

Objective: To assess the feasibility, safety, and preliminary effect of a 12-week multi-modal rehabilitation program targeted at improving health-related quality of life and physical activity levels of patients with lung cancer following treatment.

Methods: Patients with stage I to IIIA non-small cell lung cancer were included 6 to 12 weeks following completion of treatment. The intervention comprised of aerobic exercise (brisk walking), resistance training and 8-style Tai Chi.

Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is a world-famous life-saving method. Until now, changes in arterial wave properties due to ECLS have remained unexamined. In this study, we determined the effects of ECLS on arterial wave properties and ventricular/arterial coupling in male Wistar rats with the measured aortic pressure alone.

A simple and efficient HPLC method was developed to evaluate the quality of traditional herbal medicines made from cinnamon bark (CB) and cinnamon twig (CT). Seven major bioactive ingredients in 56 samples (24 CB and 32 CT) collected from China, Vietnam, and Indonesia were separated and quantified. The method was validated following the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines.

Pulmonary embolism is a life-threatening condition, which is most commonly related to deep vein thrombosis. Varicose vein thrombosis, a very common disease, is seldom reported as being related to pulmonary embolism. We present combined computed tomography venography and pulmonary angiography findings suggesting that thrombosed varicosities of a great saphenous vein caused acute pulmonary embolism in a 30-year-old male.

The contingent valuation method (CVM) is one of the most dominating and standard techniques for eliciting the willingness to pay (WTP) for the ecosystem services provided by environment and resources. Taking Zhangjiabang Creek, a model project in the comprehensive management of urban river in China, as a case study, 800 payment card CVM questionnaires were surveyed and 646 as useful questionnaires were feed back in August 2003, then, the mean WTP, 195.07 - 253.

Objective: To investigate the effect of pericardial devascularization combined with preservation of Latarjet's innervation on portal hypertension.

Methods: Sixty-two patients (57 men and 5 women) have been undergone pericardial devascularization combined with Latarjet's innervation since 1984. Clinical results and postoperative complications were evaluated.
