Introduction: Nicotinamide nucleotide transhydrogenase (NNT) gene deficiency has recently been shown to be involved in Primary Adrenal Insufficiency (PAI). NNT encodes an inner mitochondrial membrane protein that produces large amounts of NADPH. NADPH is used in several biosynthesis pathways and the oxidoreduction of free radicals by the glutathione and thioredoxin systems in mitochondria.

Design: A cohort study.
Setting: A tertiary-care university hospital.

Sperm malformation is a direct factor for male infertility. Multiple morphological abnormalities of the flagella (MMAF), a severe form of asthenoteratozoospermia, are characterized by immotile spermatozoa with malformed and/or absent flagella in the ejaculate. Previous studies indicated genetic heterogeneity in MMAF.

Objectives: To describe the penetration of maraviroc, raltegravir, raltegravir glucuronide and rilpivirine in seminal plasma and cervico-vaginal secretions (CVS) and to assess local antiretroviral efficacy in HIV-1-positive patients.
Methods: This was a prospective, multicentre study.
Background: Zika virus (ZIKV) is an arthropod-borne virus of the family Flaviviridae, genus Flavivirus. ZIKV is currently the focus of an ongoing pandemic and worldwide public health emergency. Although originally isolated in 1947, its pathogenesis was poorly known and very few documented infections were published until recently.

Design: We conducted a matched cohort study from January 2008 to December 2013 in a tertiary university centre. Two hundred and one HIV-infected women requesting assisted reproductive technology and 603 age and cause of infertility-matched HIV seronegative women were enrolled in this study.
Background: The annulus is a ring-shaped structure located beneath the plasma membrane that connects the midpiece and the principal piece of mammalian sperm flagellum. It has been suggested that the annulus acts as a morphological organizer, guiding flagellum assembly during spermiogenesis, and as a diffusion barrier, confining proteins to distinct compartments of the flagellum in mature sperm. Previous studies on small cohorts of patients have attempted to correlate annulus defects with the occurrence of human asthenozoospermia.

Both these processes are controlled by ions fluxes and are essential for fertilization. We have shown that SLC26A8, a sperm-specific member of the SLC26 family of anion exchangers, associates with the CFTR channel and strongly stimulates its activity.

Objective: To evaluate the viral contamination of sperm obtained after testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA) in men with azoospermia and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hepatitis C virus infection.
Design: Prospective study.
Setting: Fertility clinic, and reproductive technology and virology laboratories.
Objective: To review 5 years of assisted reproductive treatments (ART) provided to couples affected by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Design: Age-matched cohort study.
