Variation in surgery postponement rates in the NHS in England.

Introduction: Postponement of surgery at preoperative assessment in the days or weeks before the patient is admitted for surgery, as distinct from cancellation on the planned day of surgery, can be devastating for patients and an inefficient use of finite resources. However, postponements are often poorly recorded. The primary aim of this pilot study was to investigate elective surgical postponement rates during or after preoperative assessment across England, and the reasons for postponement for patients on an elective surgical pathway.

Evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of an exercise and behaviour change intervention in socioeconomically deprived patients with peripheral arterial disease: The textpad study protocol.

This pilot randomised controlled trial aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a 12-week home-based telehealth exercise and behavioural intervention delivered in socioeconomically deprived patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). The study will also determine the preliminary effectiveness of the intervention for improving clinical and health outcomes. Sixty patients with PAD who meet the inclusion criteria will be recruited from outpatient clinic at the Freeman Hospital, United Kingdom.

Depression Is Not Independently Associated with a Clinically Worse Functional Improvement but Associated with a Lower Reported Satisfaction Rate after Total Knee Arthroplasty.

The aim of this study was to assess whether depression had a clinically significant influence on the functional improvement of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) according to the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score, and whether it influences patient satisfaction at 1 year. A retrospective cohort of 3,510 primary TKA was identified from an arthroplasty database. Patient demographics, comorbidities, WOMAC, and Short Form-12 (SF-12) scores were collected preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively.
